But can he see why kids like Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
Likely. I know he eats it from time to time. Usually when it goes on sale. He doesn't exactly have the greatest diet in the world, and it shows.

*shrugs* I don't know how this build is supposed to work. He's the one who designed it, not me. But if he thinks it's going to be good, maybe it will be. He's been RPing a lot longer than I have so maybe he sees something we don't. Not a clue. And the PF fighter is no longer Tier 5. It's probably low Tier 4 now.

Well you'd have to re-work the tier system to back up such a statement.
The paladin got a lot better as well. The barbarian too probably.

So all in all I don't think it's a very optimised fighter build, not from using feats outside of pathfinder, I'd find a lockdown fighter, an archer fighter or something else entirely to be better at what he wants to do (protect the wizard).

Off course the Tier system is still in effect in pathfinder, it is just less clear and the classes might have moved one tier closer together, giving us 4-5 tiers instead of 6, but you can classify the JaronK system that way as well if you want to, it's just a scale of power, and there is a scale of power in pathfinder. Smite is for example a lot better than weapon or armour mastery of the fighter, and the other abilities of the paladin is also a bit more useful than the fighters equavilents (not to mention armour profiency makes the fighter MAD). And Barbarians are Decent spring attackers.

Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

Truth be told, I've e-mailed him, and I'm still waiting to hear back from him as to what exactly this character is supposed to be able to do, and why he's "sick" and "awesome".

He finally replied. I asked him what the purpose of this build was...

"He is a Defender and a Striker

Defender: adds his shield bonus to 2 separate adjacent allies (up to 12) or twice to 1 (up to 24) and he may if he chooses to designate himself the target of 2 attacks per attacker per round when they would be targeting adjacent allies, any one hit by his attack is also Bull rushed (Stops movement) +4 Con +4 Str when Fighting Defensivly.

Striker: 10 attacks in a round no TWF penalty, and does same damage per attack as a Great Sword, and he gets a +3 AC bonus when fighting offensivly."

Solo ought to give him two more generic melee characters, like an NPC fighter and paladin, just to make it look like he can use those class features (he can't).

Why can't he?
I guess I should rephrase that: "just to make it look like those abilities are useful."

Interesting. The spells my sorcerer knows were not appreciably nerfed in Pathfinder.
