I want to make a fighter-ish character that uses a flail. Very simple. Could be a Duskblade, a War mage, a fighter, or anything really. Prefer not a Barbarian since I have one of those already. I'm open to suggestions!

Ooooo Neat.
Question: Improved Disarm. When you disarm someone, do they provoke an AoO to pick their weapon back up?
Cause I imagined this pattern: Disarm. They try to pick up the weapon. Oh, hey AoO: Trip. Tripped. Oh hey! Free attack.

Does the free attack granted by the Trip considered an AoO?

Dire Flail is in the SRD. Flindbar is nice if you get EWP for free. 19-20 threat range and a free disarm attempt on a threatened crit, even if you don't confirm. I think the free disarm attempt may only be for Flinds who use it though. I only have the stats from the reprinting in the Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde campaign, so I may be missing something.

I think the free disarm attempt may only be for Flinds who use it though. I only have the stats from the reprinting in the Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde campaign, so I may be missing something. Not sure when Shattered Gates... was published, but there are stats for the flindbar posted on the Wizards site, circa September 2004: Flindbar: A flindbar resembles a pair of chain-linked iron bars, not unlike a flail. This one-handed exotic weapon costs 30 gp, deals 2d4 points of bludgeoning damage, has a threat range of 19-20, deals double damage on a critical hit, and weighs 2 pounds. Flinds treat a flindbar as a martial weapon instead of an exotic weapon.
The wielder of a flindbar gains a +2 bonus on opposed attack rolls made to disarm an enemy (including the roll to avoid being disarmed if such an attempt fails). If a proficient wielder threatens a critical hit, he can make a free disarm attempt against that opponent before confirming the critical hit (this disarm attempt doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity).
Now this is posted within a statblock for a Flind, but there's no other indication that the "free disarm" would apply only to Flinds. It simply says "a proficient wielder". Edit: I should probably note that that excerpt posted on the Wizards site comes directly out of Monster Manual 3, as PhaedrusXY pointed out above.

If our going for a feat heavy build, Fighter or Psychic Warrior for example, then Dire Flail Smash is a good choice. Appropriate DC vs Daze is always awesome

Mind telling me what book Dire Flail smash is from?
Also, should I use a Dire flail when I'm not using TWF?

Dire Flail Smash, Champions of Ruin pg.17-19.
Dire Flail Smash
You have mastered the style of fighting with the dire flail and have learned to deal thunderous blows with the weapon.
Prerequisites: Str 13, Improved Sunder, Power Attack, Weapon Focus (dire flail). Benefit: If you hit the same creature with both ends of your dire flail in the same round, it must make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 your character level + your Str modifier) or be dazed by the pain for 1 round. Special: A fighter can select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats.

He may need a 2 level dip into fighter and/or PW for the feats if he intends to use Dire Flail Smash, as it is a bit feat intensive. +1 Aptitude Keen Small Heavy Flails and the Feat Lightning Maces imo.
If your using Aptitude then you should just save your feats and go with Boomerang Daze as it can have a way higher DC. 10+ 1.5*Strength Mod+ Weapon Enhancement+Knowledge Devotion+Weapon Spec line+D-Damage reduction
