Chain Spell (Complete Arcane 76)Chain Spell states this, among other things:
"Any spell that specifi es a single target and has a range greater than touch can be chained so as to affect that primary target normally, then arc to a number of secondary targets equal to your caster level (maximum 20). Each arc affects one secondary target chosen by you, all of which must be within 30 feet of the primary target, and none of which can be affected more than once. You can choose to affect fewer secondary targets than the maximum. If the chained spell deals damage, the secondary targets each take half as much damage as the primary target (rounded down) and can attempt Refl ex saving throws for half damage (whether the spell allows the original target a save or not)."
Let's say I Chain a damage spell. Normally it would do 40 damage (the primary target didn't save), but how much would it do to secondary targets?
Split Ray (Complete Arcane 83)Split Ray makes an extra ray to fire at the original target or another target. If combined with Chain Spell (assuming it could), does this mean each target could be hit twice?
Mass Fire Shield (Spell Compendium 92)Let's assume I use
Ocular Spell and
Chain Spell to make this affect my party. Would secondary targets deal less damage with this shield?
Note that
fire shield does not
directly deal damage.
Fire shield states:
"Any creature striking you with its body or a handheld weapon deals normal damage, but at the same time the attacker takes 1d6 points of damage +1 point per caster level (maximum +15). This damage is either cold damage (if the shield protects against fire-based attacks) or fire damage (if the shield protects against cold-based attacks). If the attacker has spell resistance, it applies to this effect."
