The doors slide open with only a small amount of resistance. The sunrod illuminates the corridor, but the corridor stretches into darkness. (More than 60') A pair of alcoves are dug into the wall ahead of you. (10' ahead)Dagnar:

This goes at least 100 feet and there are more alcoves beyond the light. We need to be wary my bones feel the ache of danger.

Thymm continues to take point, sunrod held high in one hand and polearm leaned against shoulder. He leads onward down the corridor, eyes darting warily into the alcoves. "So what do you figure they got as protection in here?" he mutters.

Meveri follows behind Thymm, keeping her eyes peeled for dangers, or perhaps even clues as to who the recent visitor was... or is. Buska ruffles his feathers a bit, but otherwise remains silent. He cocks his head around, looking where Meveri looks to aid her perception of the tunnel.

Dagnar cautiously walks down the hallway near the rear of the group. His bow is drawn with an arrow notched just in case.
(funny thought a dwarf with a bow, but it is sooo much better than my melee capabilities right now.

As you walk, the second pair of alcoves that Dagnar mentioned come into view. (These are 70' into the corridor) Just before reaching the second pair of alcoves (50' into the corridor) another, third pair of alcoves comes into view. (110' from opening) Just beyond the third pair of alcoves, a few steps going up terminate the corridor. As you reach the third set of alcoves, a mouth appears in the east alcove. "WHO DARES ENTER THIS PLACE AND INTRUDE UPON THE SANCTUARY OF ITS INHABITANTS?" After a moment, as if in answer, a mouth appears in the west alcove. "ONLY A GROUP OF FOOLHARDY EXPLORERS DOOMED TO CERTAIN DEATH" it proclaims. Both mouths then shout in unison "WOE TO ANY WHO PASS THIS PLACE - THE WRATH OF ZELLIGAR AND ROGAHN WILL BE UPON THEM." The mouths then begin a loud, raucous laughter, fading in volume as the mouths fade from view. OOC:

OOC: @Venn: @Littha and @Awkward Map: An indescribable fear overwhelms the leaders of the party, who flee away from the alcoves. Stepping back up to the third set of alcoves does not cause the mouths to reappear, however. Advancing up the stairs, (130' from entrance in a straight line) our party sees a grisly sight. The corridor continues straight ahead, further than the sunrod illuminates, with a set of doors (10' from junction), a left turn (20'), and a right turn (30'). Corridors also meet from the east and west, brightly illuminated by the sunrod and both turning back toward the entrance. At the intersection, it appears a battle has been fought. The remains of five combatants sit in the intersection. Closer inspection shows that 3 of the bodies were explorers, while two have tabards with R&Z stamped on them in green. The bodies are all in advanced states of decay, and have been here more than 2 months. The stench of decaying bodies is strong, replusive. One of the bodies is unique in that it is propped up against the wall, held there by a sword jammed into its stomach.

Carefully advancing up to the bodies Amelia begins some funeral rites.
My lady of the dead, Your power brings us to magic, Your providence guides our lives, and by your command we return to dust.
Lady, those who die still live in your presence, their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for these souls, and for all the dead known to you alone.

As the two rush past the rest of the party, Buska squawks, " Ch'yeh! Cowards!" In response, Meveri scolds the bird. " Oh? They had to be compelled to flee. You needed no reason at all before we even entered." " Ch'yeh!" Coming up on the intersection, Meveri looks the scene over, hoping to glean more clues about the fatal scuffle.

Asher quietly smiles upon seeing the sight.
"Crude, but effective. I like these people already."
His voice is still as flat-affected as ever, though.

The fear snakes its way into Thymm's head, making him afraid for his life. Not worth it, not if I'm going to die...! he thought as he ran for the exit.
A moment later, Thymm stops confused. He could see he was still in a dangerous place, but was no longer scared. "Aw, they hit me with magic?" he says to Meveri. "More of this to look forward to I'm sure," he complains. The young man trudges his way back to the front of the group, looking upset at himself as he passes by.
Determined not to be caught unaware again, Thymm stands guard while Meveri and Amelia are occupied with the bodies.

OOC: Focusing down each hallway, Dagnar sees very little. The masonry of the walls is generally good, though your dwarven eyes spot some inadequacies. The floors are uneven in some places, and obviously well-used in this area. As you watch, a rat skitters across the long hallway, outside the light.
