So, I find myself with a 1 TB external hard drive in my possession, so I say to myself "Hey, I think I'll put some linux on here too." Problem is, I can't decide what distro to go with. Currently I'm looking at Ubuntu and Source Mage, but does anyone on here more linux savvy than I have any suggestions/help to offer?

If you're new to linux, ubuntu is pretty good.

Usually, newer versions have lots of bugs Unless you want to be a lab rat, it's a good idea to wait a few months before upgrading.

I learned that from Jaunty, I updated a few minutes after they released Karmic and had to wipe my drive clean and start once again since I could not get it to fix some of the bugs (according to friend of mine a few important packages was missing in the first release and my computer refused to get them). This time I'm waiting a while

Bit of a dated post, but to give you an idea how nice 10.04 is, I'm typing this on a 10 year old Compaq Armada 700M with LXDE metasession, and it runs just fine.  It runs circles around the XP machine (with about 700 mhz more processor...at 1.7 ghz lmao) on youtube, even.

Worth updating from the previous one? I was thinking of wiping my drive clean and get a fresh start with a new OS since it's been giving me some troubles lately (such as firefox refusing to work no matter what I try, Chrome is okay, but it's not the same Sad).
