Q183: Invisibility Purge is a spell that is not an Area or Effect spell but does create a "sphere of power" with a radius. My friend is arguing that it MUST be an emanation spell as a "sphere" that is not a burst or spread.
I point out that it is NOT and Area spell and so the info on Sphere spells that are Area spells do not apply. Thus IP could work through walls and obstacles to its max range. Is this correct?
A183look at the spell again:
Invisibility PurgeEvocation
Level: Clr 3
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 min./level (D)
You surround yourself with a sphere of power with a radius of 5 feet per caster level that negates all forms of invisibility.
Anything invisible becomes visible while in the area.
the type of Spell that it is .... it is a
Personal spell that Targets you.... and
causes the Spell Effect to radiate from you .... it is not the best written spell, and could have been more clearly written.
the question that needs to be answered: is it an Emanation or Spread, since both can be in the form of a Sphere ..... the only word that identifies the shape is: Radius ,so we know it is a Sphere.
Emanations Line of Effect can be blocked, although Spreads can go around Corners... they dont go thru walls, and can also be blocked
notice:
Line of Effect: A line of effect is a straight, unblocked path that indicates what a spell can affect. A line of effect is canceled by a solid barrier. It’s like line of sight for ranged weapons, except that it’s not blocked by fog, darkness, and other factors that limit normal sight.
You must have a clear line of effect to any target that you cast a spell on or to any space in which you wish to create an effect. You must have a clear line of effect to the point of origin of any spell you cast. A burst, cone, cylinder, or emanation spell affects only an area, creatures, or objects to which it has line of effect from its origin (a spherical burst’s center point, a cone-shaped burst’s starting point, a cylinder’s circle, or an emanation’s point of origin).
An otherwise solid barrier with a hole of at least 1 square foot through it does not block a spell’s line of effect. Such an opening means that the 5-foot length of wall containing the hole is no longer considered a barrier for purposes of a spell’s line of effect.
i would tend to believe it is an Emanation
