Also, as a reminder. Remember to track HP and spell slots between fights.

My balancing 3.5 compendiumElemental mage test gameQuotesIt is a shame stupidity isn't painful. Totally true. Historians believe that most past civilizations would have endured for centuries longer if they had successfully determined Batman's alignment. Why are so many posts on the board the equivalent of " Dear Dr. Crotch, I keep punching myself in the crotch, and my groin hurts... what should I do? How can I make my groin stop hurting?" I suggest carving "Don't be a dick" into him with a knife. A dull, rusty knife. A dull, rusty, bent, flaming knife. Fluffy: It's over Steve! I've got the high ground! I'll get the next encounter up in a bit. I don't think that anyone cast any spells or got hurt even, so there's not much to keep track of.

Possibly. Since I wanted to test multiple fights per day, I didn't want to have each fight be "boss-like", so I was trying to stick to something near your CR. I increased it slightly for there being five PCs instead of four.
Still, gnolls drop pretty quickly at this point, and that looks like it's to be expected. I can see this group handling two bugbears okay, but that's going to start chewing into resources a bit faster. I don't know, what do you think about something like that?
Also, the range was a bit odd for the gnoll fight. I should have thought to have their bows out from the get go.

I know aepa went into the fight with the plan of using his bow until they got to close range and then was going to be using spells for some extra punch. I'll probably keep this the plan until I have a fair bit of spells per day and some spells that pack more of a punch than my bow.

That seems effective. At this level, you shoot like a fighter for 2d6-1 damage. It's almost as much damage as Rapid Shot, with a better chance to hit.

There are almost no Med. range spells at all for low levels. A quick run of the spell filter at d20srd.org has 5 1st level and 18 2nd level spells with medium range and that is across all core.

Just got internet, at least temporarily, back into my house. I need a laptop, but for now, I can post. Sorry for the hold-up. Feel free to NPC my guy if I leave for more than 2 days.
Okay. Will do. Thanks for letting me know.

I had time to get encounter 6 up. It's contrived as hell, but hopefully fun.
I know there's next to no plot on these fights, so I'm hoping you guys don't feel too screwed on the setup ever.

What did you mean when you said the fire elemental burned out in a puff of smoke, exactly? That made it sound like it "died" but then how could it attack Grizz? If it wasn't then defeated, why did it "burn out"?

Yes. It did die. I was being retarded and tried to do this from memory rather than to walk 30 feet, get my memory stick, and check the monster's HP and look at the current map with the elemental removed.
Sorry about that!

Oh man, I completely forgot about the earth elemental. I would've attacked it, but I didn't see it on the map and had forgotten that it popped up only shortly after the round started. Good thing it missed!

I was a little surprised, but I figured you wanted to take advantage of it being described as nearly dead. Of course, now Thorden can complain about you kill-stealing!
