Yeah, and if I'd started him with his weapon out and not prone, he at least could have tried to deal some damage. I think it was a foregone conclusion, but it would have been a matter of if he could take one or two of you out first.
For future reference: if you want to assume you have weapons drawn out, I'm fine with that. I can see exceptions for things like if you're sleeping or in a tavern or something, but if you're "adventuring", you don't have to waste time drawing them out.

It's not like we need our weapons at hand anyway. Well, most of us.

Yeah, it's mostly just for Flay/Thorden. It will probably be a little while until I put up encounter 4. I'm thinking of having it be the last level 1 encounter. Really, at this point, stuff is pretty swingy anyway. So I'll look to mix it up some more. Thoughts?

Well, added level 1 options would be nice(something like how much the Warlock has at level 1 anyway), but overall, as long as we aren't outranged, the flurry of ranged touches KOs pretty much anything in a jiffy.
EDIT: Though...we're facing stuff with weak touch ACs...I'm not sure how well this party would fare against...say, a couple of feral cats from ambush.

I do agree with that. Although, since you won't be level 1 much longer, I don't think I'll do it for this game. I think adding in one little schitck for each mage would be nice, even if it's just a 1/encounter thing. It could be something simple like:
Air - something akin to air devotion (concealment vs ranged attacks)
Earth - messing with terrain or maybe a temporary AC buff.
Fire - some smoke-related attack.
Water - No good ideas yet.

What level are you looking at for these types of abilities? For water i could see a 5' or 10' area of ice that is equivalent to a grease spell being in line with the others.

Instant puddle slick, hmm? That's...actually remarkably useful, particularly at the ranges level 1 mancers work in Was thinking of a small area Trip attack myself, maybe a short cone.
Say, how well do you guys think we'll handle small enemies like cats or rats? Bigger creatures get torn apart by ranged touches, but we hadn't actually tried anything tiny.

I would like to thank whoever it was that suggested we fight tiny things Ain't a real playtest until you hit something you're bad against. We're bad against bugs, and those of us who can only deliver subdual are more or less useless against constructs and undead.

Yeah, it's mostly just for Flay/Thorden. This is exactly why I took quick draw. By the by, do flails have stone heads? I need to find a decent stone weapon for when I get to lv 3... It can be if you want. I figure most any blunt weapon with an otherwise metal head could be. I'm not going to enforce any weird penalties for it being made of stone instead of steel. Remember, centipedes are toxic and most of our fort saves,uh...suck. EDIT: Zombie spiders would probably rape us to death.
The thought of zombie rats occurred to me, actually.

Sorry, I missed that one. I figured no, just because these last two fights were massacres on the side of team monster. (Yes, I know it's not intellectually honest of me to keep deciding after each fight ) I figure, regardless of the outcome, you guys could heal to full after this fight.
