Personally I'd advocate making it a weapon-like spell(generating more daggers with CL, say...in 5s of CL), and making the dex damage into a non stacking penalty.
You figure it does the full 2d8 damage? What spell level are you thinking? 1st? Other than that, is everyone fine with the spell level assignments for the time being? Flay, how's Thorden coming? |

2d6 I think, since it doesn't add a stat to damage(2d6(avg 7) is roughly equivalent to 1d8+3, a reasonable amount of damage for first level) and uses a normal attack roll. It wouldn't go up easily since it can't be enchanted, gets no increase by stat(which is compensated for when you get extra shots) and is given to a character with likely low to-hit and missile skills.
As for level, 0th should do, it's just a weapon replacement.

Yeah, but it's Long range and is demonstrably better than all of the other cantrips, aside from maybe Magic Missile.

Ah, I see what you mean, it'd be a reasonable weapon replacement(since its basically a longbow that hits for dex penalties at the cost of some damage), but stronger than other cantrips. Drop the Dex penalty instead?

Well, it has four times the range of a composite long bow at 1st level at no penalty. Sure, the bow can fire farther, but with at least a -8 penalty to hit. I don't know. Maybe I'm making too big of a deal about it, but it's better than all the other cantrips.

Okay, if it's going to be a cantrip how about: - Medium range
- 1d8 damage per odd CL (capped at 5d8)
- Dex penalty and not damage
- Single attack
For at will, that seems pretty good. By the time it gets less useful (like the other cantrips), you have 4th and 5th level spell slots, and lots of total slots anyway. |

Sweet! Whenever Flay is ready, I can start to run fights again! I may re-use a couple fights just to see how they pan out.
I'll probably wait to update the original thread with these changes until we decide if we like them. I'll update the spell list post earlier with the Ice Knife changes.

I actually think this is my favorite Thorden yet. Sorry for the hold up, totally forgot to post this for about four days now. Anywho, the new and improved, plated badass, Thorden the Elder. He got older, for some reason, but he's still not in a different age category. I don't know why to either question yet. |

I should be able to get away with just calling lighting and casting a few spells (that don't require attack roles) or moving until i get back.
edit: just realized my pick for expanded learning has essentually been negated, it was picked entirely to give me a med. range spell. I'm looking for something else right now and will add it to my list, but won't use it this fight. Assuming the spell is alright that is.

Tossed on Stolen Breath from the SC. Basically sickens someone for a minute unless they take a full round to catch their breath. I wanted to get Electric blade from the CA (Wu Jen list) except that it was horribly limited in comparison to flame blade (1d6/lvl cap of 10, but that was all the damage it could do so i couldn't use it as a melee replacement)

I can't believe I hadn't thought about that combination before now. Swift: call lightning Standard: propelled shot Move: whatever I want to do. That could be some real damage per round, at least for low levels it will be.
