@Veekie, I know I took it into account on Grizz. Dunno if you cast it on anyone else, though.

Yeah, I was hoping to strike a balance between testing capabilities and tedious. I might be leaning too much toward tedious, though...

Its managing to provide us with a harder fight than just about anything that came up yet. Really makes the limited range noticeable.

Yeah that is the big thing. Aepa has 3 options right now: Close the distance, use my bow, or use the one Med. range spell I have. I'm going with closing the distance right now so I can have some options once I get there. If I go with the bow i'm likely to miss or deal relatively low damage and if I spam my med. spell I will run out of slots quickly.

My role right now is to keep the attention of as many baddies off of the mages for as long as possible, which involves splitting up the monsters' focus. However, that also involves splitting Grizz from the group, which means less direct defending of them, and keeps me out of range of healing effects to keep me standing longer. Thankfully I get access to a couple healing powers, but they have low healing capacity and only buy me a little extra time. Still, such is the life of a meatshield.

I think one major problem was tactics, we sorta split up instead of tackling them and overwhelming them as we hit.

Same here; we could try to chase and lob spells, but that just seems like a losing game.

Alright. I'll call it then. I'm not sure when I'll get the next one up. I have a poker game tonight, so I might be busy...
I was debating how hard to push this fight. EL wise, this should have been an EL 7 encounter, but that can always be so misleading. I was seriously toying with about six orcs, and then I threw in two more right at the end.
Grizz ended up going down. I'm not sure how much of that was from you guys splitting up and how much it was from sheer numbers. Given eight orcs firing each round, sometimes with two arrows, the chances of a confirmed crit are actually pretty good. Especially in a long, drawn out fight like this.
I think Veekie called it: something more long range would be problematic. I hoped the cover and concealment would make up the difference. These guys weren't brutes or anything, so they required cover, too.

More or less as expected when I suggested a long range standoff. Thats one big blind spot, and we don't have the durability to really just charge in and clear them out.

If I end up taking Frank's advice on Evocation spells, that would put Fireball at 1st level, which would help a lot in these types of situations. It wouldn't do much for the rest of you, though. Part of this is weird because we're playing four mages, and while I designed them to fill entirely different roles, I didn't quite flesh out an entire party with them. This makes me wonder if I should focus more on the Geomancer's durability.

In reality, I'm not much of a drinker, and least of all beer (which my loving parents seemed intent on pouring into me).
