The difference would be that you can also push bigger monsters around as you get stronger.

It makes a lot of sense to roll both attack and damage in one "roll" in Invisible Castle, but damn, if it isn't disappointing to see a good damage roll combined with a poor attack roll.

Well, encounter 5 is done.

I was thinking you guys could probably level up unless there's anything else you'd like to try out at first level.

Hmm, could drop a standard NPC caster as a finale. A wizard with surprise and clearance would be interesting(and theoretically the same CR as us).

Other than that, I can't think of any other things to try against, besides varied terrains.

That sounds cool. Probably a good idea to put us up against an equal level NPC with class levels just before we transition to next level/tier (in case we jump a few levels) just to see how we balance vs another "character"

Sounds like a plan.  Although, it may be nearly 24 hours until I can post it.  I've got a fairly busy schedule tomorrow and I actually have to stat an NPC up as opposed to just using the SRD.

I'll get it up as soon as I can.

I think Thorden and Grizz should take on the soldier, while the rest of you focus fire on the archer. We don't want you guys opening yourselves up to direct melee combat, in my opinion.

Though if you guys have a different idea, then share it by all means. Big Grin

I think if I cover one and Grizz covers the other, we can tie them up and have the others nuke them to death. Archer will provoke an extra attack per turn if he wants to fire his nice bow while engaged, neither will try and move out of a circle giving a threat to a melee guy just to try and outrun the ranged guys who can in a pinch flank him and go defensive. Both Ixen and Serias have very nice AC's, so that tactic would be bad against them, and might be nice if the foes prove harder to hit.

Either way, our melee geo guys should split it 50/50 and engage one, have two support the soldier one the archer (more likely to block hits/have higher AC). Since I move less distance and can't fire for shit, Grizz might wanna take the archer, especially since I'm hella close to the soldier. Then our two high AC ranged might wanna chose between them to, and the other fix himself on the soldier. Soldier goes down, we bum rush the archer in our last action. All goes according to plan, they wont kill us...

That's just my 2g though.

Just making the round in the PbP i'm in. A heads up for people here. My first child is due at the beginning of next month. While i primarily post from work, thus no real drop in participation, there will be a significant chance of me being incoherent due to sleep deprivation.

Congrats!  My first (only) child was born about a year-and-a-half ago, back when I was posting heavily on the rebalancing project.  As you can imagine, my free time dropped quite a bit.  You'll have a lot of fun, although you're right about the lack of sleep.

One word of advice: if you have any baby-proofing left to do on the place, do it now before the child arrives.  Even though he/she won't be crawling for six months or so, you'll have a lot harder time finding the time to do it later than you will now. Wink

(Sorry Thorden)
Dude, I called it, lol. No worries, though do I roll to stabilize? Later on, once the hydro becomes a healer, this might not be as much of an issue so much as a hinderance... but low levels, we just kinda have to mob guys.

I'd say yeah.  I'll progress the round so we don't wait, but you should check about stabilizing.  Like you said, next level, you can be brought back into action.

With encounter 6 (the level 1 "boss" fight) done, you guys gain a level!

Figure that you gain an extra 775 gold (the standard WBL 900 for level 2 minus your starting 125), and you gain "average" HP (half the sides on your hit die; so 4 + Con for the geomancers and 3 + Con for everyone else).  Let me know when each of your PCs are leveled so I know when to start the next encounter!

my pc is leveled, though i do have to ask are we going to be making any changes to wind push? As it stands right now i can only use it on Med or smaller creatures and am taking a -4 size penalty on my roll. We had discussed several different things with it, do we want to implement any of those before the 2nd level encounters or do we want to see how they pan out as is? Also next level i assume the non-Geos get 4 + con HP since average is 3.5 on a d6.

For the peanut gallery any items i should be looking at? I feel pretty comfortable with my gear as of right now, x-bow is for long range encounters and creatures immune to subdual and dagger is emergency melee. By emergency i mean "holy crap this guy is trying to rip me apart, i don't do meleeeeee!" kinda emergency.

I have up until Level 6 figured out for my character progression, going for maneuverability and getting fly-by attack at lvl 6. Any ideas on what else i should work on after that? I considered point blank and precise shot, but by that level the bonuses and penalties would be insignificant.

That's a good question.  I figure for sure, I won't count size against you, so we just won't use a size modifier.  This means that all aeromancers are considered medium size for purposes of this ability.

Adding in CL as a "size" modifier seems like a good idea in that it lets you relatively keep up with larger and larger foes, but it will also have you throwing around medium and smaller humanoids like rag dolls at higher levels.  That may be undesirable.  I guess for now, just assume a size modifier of +0.

Also next level i assume the non-Geos get 4 + con HP since average is 3.5 on a d6.
That's why I put average in quotes.  The DMG agerage HP houserule figures that you add a number equal to half the number of sides on your hit die.  So the "average" of d6 is 3 for this purpose.

One thing to keep in mind is spell-trigger and completion items.  You could get ahold of some cheat [AIR] items, if needed.

a quick and dirty idea for wind push. treat it as if "wind push" is a creature the same size as the target. This will simplify the entire process and makes it my cha vs their str and any bonuses they may have for stability and the like. It also eliminates the issue of not being allowed to rush larger creatures, due to only being able to rush creatures your size +1. The same could be applied to wind torrent for grapples since size modifiers have no effect there and it has the same restriction of size +1.

That would be an ideal way of handling it, I think.
More or less equalizes the pushing field.

I am leveled, though I may note that not many spells of note have the [Water] descriptor, including the early spells of the Water domain. Cloudburst(which would screw pyro up, but worth it vs massed ranged attackers) and Summon Nature's Ally(Water Elemental) are pretty much it.
Ditched the trident for weight capacity to hold an everburning torch, properly covered, of course.
Fire would have plenty to pick from, and theres a couple of gems for Earth. Air is about as screwed as Water at the early levels as far as spell completion goes. A lot of spells that intuitively belong to them do not actually have the tags.

I presume we would be made up the value of the expendables next level, as usual?
