Can I ready a lesser action in place of the standard action? In this case it would be a swift to teleport away when he charges but before I get hit.

Ahh! I found it. I was thinking you could ready only a standard action, but the limitation is that readying takes a standard action. Here's the SRD entry: Ready
The ready action lets you prepare to take an action later, after your turn is over but before your next one has begun. Readying is a standard action. It does not provoke an attack of opportunity (though the action that you ready might do so).
Readying an Action
You can ready a standard action, a move action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it. Then, any time before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition. The action occurs just before the action that triggers it. If the triggered action is part of another character’s activities, you interrupt the other character. Assuming he is still capable of doing so, he continues his actions once you complete your readied action. Your initiative result changes. For the rest of the encounter, your initiative result is the count on which you took the readied action, and you act immediately ahead of the character whose action triggered your readied action.
You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don’t otherwise move any distance during the round.
Initiative Consequences of Readying
Your initiative result becomes the count on which you took the readied action. If you come to your next action and have not yet performed your readied action, you don’t get to take the readied action (though you can ready the same action again). If you take your readied action in the next round, before your regular turn comes up, your initiative count rises to that new point in the order of battle, and you do not get your regular action that round.
... So, reading that, it looks like you could ready a swift action (at least I'd allow it), but it would take your standard action for the round (so you couldn't blast and ready), and your initiative count would be set to the time that you took your action. Probably not worth it in this case. |

Yes, although it looks like you could shoot from J 14 (where you're at) as well. Either way, the minotaur gets cover. I did the whole corner-to-corner trick using Paint, and it looks like both work.

well things are looking up. I've been posting updates in a thread on another forum that i'm a mod on. Looks like my baby girl will be able to come home Saturday if all goes as planned. She will still need surgery but not right now. |

This isn't a complaint, but this game definitely has way more open-space combats than any other I've played.  I'd wondered about that. I can do more dungeon stuff too. This one was just a convenience grab from an older map. |

But that's something that not all warlocks get. If elemental mages had range dependent on level, or feats to enhance their range, or some other class feature option, then they would be the same. However, EM's are a fair bit more powerful than Warlocks. At early levels, Warlocks win out a bit due to diversity in build options, sure (not to mention full access to UMD), but EM's eventually win out due to sheer raw power. I don't think you could ever really try to compare an EM to a wizard of course, in terms of diversity and versatility (as well as feat options), but that is of course the same as trying to compare a warlock to a wizard. In short, I've gone completely off track from the initial point.  |

Well, thing is, compared to a rogue for example, theres no range where we're 'moderately' strong, just a short distance between out of range, blast range and ohshithesinmyface range.

Yeowch, that was nearly half my total hitpoints in one attack.  Thank goodness for DR or I'd have taken more than just 11 damage. Also, why is Thorden listed on his sheet as having d10 HD instead of d8s? |

Yeowch, that was nearly half my total hitpoints in one attack. Thank goodness for DR or I'd have taken more than just 11 damage. Also, why is Thorden listed on his sheet as having d10 HD instead of d8s? What's even scarier is I don't usually fill in my HD section, just my HP Altering that. |
