Just a cosmetic thing (I hope), but I moved to G-26, my dot's on H-26. No need to change, just noting it.

Do you guys want any say in what things you fight, or do you want it to be a surprise each time? At the early levels, yeah, that limited range really burns. Not that different from baby warlocks though, except they do get another cool power usually.
Yeah, I figured that'd be the case. I figured I'd want to test over-60-foot range at least once. It's just probably frustrating that I did it on the first fight. Just a cosmetic thing (I hope), but I moved to G-26, my dot's on H-26. No need to change, just noting it.
Thanks. I'll update it on my map so it's right next time it's posted.

My balancing 3.5 compendiumElemental mage test gameQuotesIt is a shame stupidity isn't painful. Totally true. Why are so many posts on the board the equivalent of " Dear Dr. Crotch, I keep punching myself in the crotch, and my groin hurts... what should I do? How can I make my groin stop hurting?" I suggest carving "Don't be a dick" into him with a knife. A dull, rusty knife. A dull, rusty, bent, flaming knife. Fluffy: It's over Steve! I've got the high ground! Sohala, did you actually pick out the two flaws for Ixen? I just noticed that I couldn't find yours.
This is my first PbP (playing or running), and I have to say, I'm enjoying it. It's moving along faster than I'd expected.

Thought about it, I would rather be surprised on the enemies, but for test purposes I suggest doing the "same" set up at each tier. Like one ambush for enemies, one for us, etc.

I prefer to test our abilities in a multitude of situations, but we shouldn't be aware, necessarily, of what we're up against, except in a few situations. For instance, players often have a small amount of notice if they're gonna go up against, say, undead. They can equip themselves to have some measure of preparedness, at least in some occasions. Sometimes something will pop up unexpectedly, so it's not a hard-and-fast rule.
Ultimately, you're the one using the data you're collecting, though, so throw whatever you think will be most useful against us for your testing.

In the case of testing, knowledge of what we're up against makes more sense in a 'boss' type scenario, but doesn't really alter things much besides acquiring suitable scrolls.
Elementalists can't really customize on a per-fight basis, unlike vancians.

That makes sense.
I could see giving you prior knowledge ahead of time for certain fights. It would also be handy for things like expendable items you might buy. Now that each of you have spell-completion abilities, things like scrolls and wands become a possibility.

Working out the movement for my 30 ft move-speed, I was able to get Grizz up to L10 easily, but if you say he can only get to M, then that's ok I guess.

No, I moved Grizz 30 feet. He started in R 13 and was able to move to M 10 in 30. This was a total of 5 squares left and 3 up. I figured you could move two diagonals (R 13 to P 11) in 15 feet, two more left (P 11 to N 11) in 10 more feet, and one last diagonal (N 11 to M 10) as your last 5 feet. I couldn't see any way to get to L 10 in less than 35 feet. Perhaps you didn't double-count the second diagonal square? Which path did you take? @Robby Yeah, fire away, I seem to have misjudged the distance.
Cool. I was hoping you didn't feel like I was stepping on your toes.

Okay. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything, and to let you know how I came to that conclusion. I really want you guys to call me on something if you think I'm doing it wrong. I'm typically a bit of a rules lawyer when it comes to D&D, so I appreciate correction.

Yeah, this encounter is a lot like an opposite of the first encounter. This time you guys have a definite advantage. I also wanted to try a single monster as well.
One problem with this is there are no CR 1.25 monsters, so having a 5th person means I either have to round up or down. At level 1, this is a big deal, as rounding up to CR 2 is huge. At something like level 4, it's not such a big deal to round up to CR 5.
I may dabble with a similar fight at much closer ranges.
