Here's one for all the out of character chat.
I won't have time to set up the first encounter tonight, but I'll start on it soon. So far as I know, everyone is set with their characters, right? Let me know if you need anything or if I'm missing anything.

Why are so many posts on the board the equivalent of " Dear Dr. Crotch, I keep punching myself in the crotch, and my groin hurts... what should I do? How can I make my groin stop hurting?" I suggest carving "Don't be a dick" into him with a knife. A dull, rusty knife. A dull, rusty, bent, flaming knife. Fluffy: It's over Steve! I've got the high ground! Buy a small country. Or Pelor. Both are good investments.

Also, do you guys have a preferred marching order, so I know where to place the tokens on the map when a fight breaks out?
Edit: I think this is probably the last bit of info I need before I'm ready to start the first fight. I figured you'd probably want the melee geomancer up front, but I don't know if that means the other four of you want to hold to the back, or what.

Cool. It looks like they're all up. Archangel, did you know that Str penalties apply to damage on bows? You may want a crossbow, unless the move action reload is too much to stomach. Either way is understandable. EditI moved these posts out of the character sheet thread. I should have probably used the OOC thread to discuss stuff. Now the original thread is just the character sheets.

i did but forgot. I'll swap to heavy crossbow. The bow was a backup just in case i couldn't use my wind blast or they got out of range.
Whoever gave me the 1gp to get Jackass (the mule) can have it back now. I've adjusted that on my sheet already.

I can hold up the back if necessary, since while I'm not that hot in close quarters, I am at least pretty much a pain to hit.

moved answer over here to not clutter the sheets thread. Chalk maybe? list of items from SRD with -- weight: Bell Bottle, wine, glass Candle Chalk, 1 piece (my personal favorite for burning extra cash on) Fishhook Flint and steel Ink (1 oz. vial) Inkpen Paper (sheet) Parchment (sheet) Sewing needle Signal whistle Signet ring (get some bling) Antitoxin (vial) Tindertwig (pyro should have lots of these so he can play with matches) Holly and mistletoe Holy symbol, wooden Magnifying glass then animals too.

I don't mind being up front. I may not be melee-centric, but I'm tougher to hit overall. We should have someone who can act as my eyes though, my spot/listen is shit.

Tindertwig (pyro should have lots of these so he can play with matches) I AM the match. I want the middle! Do we really need to mess with mudane gear, seeing as RP is not huge part of the test.

I'm not really that worried about mundane gear, personally. I wasn't planning on throwing you up against puzzles or anything. If you can think of any reason you'd want <Item X> in combat, feel free to buy it.

Not that it matters Robby, but did you roll the concealment chance for that Goblin to hit Grizz? Or did he move and then attack? Just have to ask since his attack puts me under half health.

Well, it does matter because I want to do this correctly, so I appreciate you bringing up any issues as you notice them. As for this case, the goblin at DD 12 didn't need to check concealment because he's standing adjacent to the bushes. I put in the bushes description in post 1 that if you're next to them, you don't need to check concealment (you're effectively shooting over them). I would have had to check if there were any non-adjacent bushed between you and him. Make sense? Due to the nature of the ambush, I started the goblins next to concealment and gave them all a clear line of sight to some part of the "path" that you all were on. Of course, as you all start to move around, you will potentially get cover and/or concealment, forcing the goblins out of their little hiding spots. At least that was the idea. Edit:I guess what I was thinking was something similar to the low obstacle cover rules. Per the SRD: Low Obstacles and Cover
A low obstacle (such as a wall no higher than half your height) provides cover, but only to creatures within 30 feet (6 squares) of it. The attacker can ignore the cover if he’s closer to the obstacle than his target. It's a similar rule I guess, and I hope it's sensible enough.

Goblin 4 (at DD12) reloads his crossbow and fires at Grizz through the bushes he's now behind -> d20 + 3 = 20 and misses! (nice AC, BTW. I thought 20 hit at first ) Well, it would've been lower had I gone Water Orc like I initially planned. So I guess I must have optimized well. Then again, I think this is the highest I can get it under these conditions and at this level. Without completely screwing over all my other stats and abilities, that is.

It worked out well. I rolled the d20, got a 17 and cringed a bit because I knew it was a modified 20. I then rolled percentile dice, got a 77, and then got ready to roll damage when I remembered your non-flat footed AC being pretty high.
Not counting concealment or cover, these goblins have a 10% chance to hit you.

As they should, being that I'm the closest thing to a "tank" Of course, other races will have a tougher time, I assume. Which is why it's good to see how the Dwarf fares in the same role.

Guh, this is gonna be a knock-down-drag-out first few levels, while my HP/AC sucks. Once I start getting better armor (skills be DAMNED! Please god don't make me swim dude...) and my HP bumps up, I'm expecting to move nicely... for now.... 20 ft land speed fml....

I predict badness.... and god DAMN they were far away.....[/spoiler]
Yeah, I wanted them far enough away to use their crossbows, but still within short range (80'). I figure some fights will start out much closer.

At the early levels, yeah, that limited range really burns. Not that different from baby warlocks though, except they do get another cool power usually.
