How about an aranea? Would that come out as ECL 5? Or a barghest? (assuming that Feed doesn't increase your HD) Hmm... Maybe a blink dog with the Sun School feat. Or an imp. Or heck, a mimic.

What about the Races of War rules for playing monsters?

If Itake Product of Infernal Dalliance and then a level in True Fiend, can I choose a different fiendish trait than the subtype I got from the feat, given that fluff is mutable?

So, possibilities: Dark Blink dog X 2 w/ Sun School feat Lolth-touched Blink dog X 2 w/ Sun School feat Draconic Barghest w/ Dragon Wings feat (Feed is a fluff requirement to gain levels, not an alternative to gaining XP) Lolth-touched Barghest http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/blinkDog.htmhttp://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/barghest.htmWhich should I go with? Note that the barghest's wings combined with its levitate SLA effectively give it full flight. That sounds entertaining... Really, if you stayed roughly humanoid who would be able to figure out what race you were? Sadly, I realised that we are two levels too early for my complete concept... a mimic who is on fire (see Elemental Aura feat in ToF). I've seen a webcomic with a party consisting of a mimic, a rust monster and a gelatinous cube. Ever since then, I've wanted to play one of those three monsters as a PC.

Draconic Barghest w/ Dragon Wings feat (Feed is a fluff requirement to gain levels, not an alternative to gaining XP) You don't need to be draconic to get wings. There is a fiend feat for that. Also, I have an idea where you might head with the barghest. I've seen a webcomic with a party consisting of a mimic, a rust monster and a gelatinous cube. Ever since then, I've wanted to play one of those three monsters as a PC. That sounds absolutely hilarious. We should do it... maybe not in this game, though... Hmm... gelatinous cube dragonfire adept, to get the most out of that Con?

I know I'm basically joined to three new campaigns when two dropped, but hell, in for a penny in for a pound. Any space left, and I'll try and fill it with god knows what, but with tome included, there's gotta be some way of making an aspiring godly hero, Hercules status.
Or perchance, a monster of some sort...

Are there any alternatives to Sun School? It has Flurry of Blows as a prereq, and the other two abilities are based on Flurry and Stunning Fist (though the latter could work with a Tome monk fighting style). If possible I'd like to get two levels of knight on the blink dog and see if my Designated Opponents can actually hit me. (though Mounted Combat as a bonus feat is pointless) Or perchance, a monster of some sort... Take a look at some of the suggestions I made earlier. Or since it's Greek, go with a pegasus.

Just a straight up human Tome Fighter could be quite strong... (probably with Product of Infernal Dalliance to get access to the Fiend feats and/or classes). That was what I was planning at first, then I decided to go with a knife-throwing "ninja" type of character, because I'd been impressed by Venn's and wanting to try one since seeing it in action. You could even do without the fiend stuff with the Command feat and a fantastic mount of some kind, like a badassed pegasus (with class levels, etc).

On a separate note, if only one can get enough followers with leadership, then this is madness.

how optimized?
Killer Gnome optimized. Not all-out killer gnome beasts with 141 CL and virtually unlimited metamagic, just normal killer gnomes that has a lot of versatility and resourcefulness. You know, I had thought about asking you if I could play my slayer after reading the first post, but now that it's called out specifically...oh, and final corrections set it's CL at 144 (37+37+37+33). So no Wings of Flurry on the pantheon and declaring myself the Shadowlord?

w/ these sanity rules, if i understand correctly... casting a spell or seeing a spell cast will effect that caster and the audience?
being a non human creature will likely also effect the audience? like a minotaur or pegasus?

I'm currently building a Human tome Barbarian with some fiendish feats and such. Doesn't mean there can't be two similar characters. I hope to god you mean the tome of war barbarian, because that shit is ridiculous. Though not as ridiculous, I might have to go Human LolthHades-Touched Tome Monk and, similarly, be a mostly naked man that strangles the children of gods (reaD: monsters) to death with his hand. Singular, not plural. I mean, come on, according to these pots and statues, none of these heroes wore anything when killing things. Plus, the class is fairly boss. An alternate, less boosty but more abilities, might be half-minotaur, and be rather theme appropriate. But then again, I am going for the tougher than normal mortal child of a god "hero" idea. My alt would be a slightly less ridic tome fighter, though that WOULD be boosting the crap out of leadership so that I could be a proper phalanx commander. No idea what the +1 LA would be for that one.
