My alt would be a slightly less ridic tome fighter, though that WOULD be boosting the crap out of leadership so that I could be a proper phalanx commander. No idea what the +1 LA would be for that one.
The tome fighter is regarded as the strongest class in the tome series, mostly due to the combat feats. They're stronger than most actual class features. Wink The 3rd level ability is amazing (free floating Combat feat that you can change once per hour as a swift action), as is Foil Action. With Combat Focus, they can also basically reroll one d20 per round, which could be more than once per round later when they get extra immediate and swift actions. Slap on all good saves and BAB... and it's a really strong class.

I actually nerfed it slightly for my Tome game, but I think that was probably unnecessary and I might change it back later. I'd love to see one played, though. I plan on entering the class later, and may take several levels of it, but I won't be starting out with any.

Edit: Also... someone should play a harpy, or get one as a cohort/follower. Their Captivating Song ability is insanely powerful... as I've seen from the one in my Tome game... Cloakers are also awesome cohorts. We could get one/some of those in a few levels.

savage species is in, and i do not own that issue, so Obah is in if you can refer me to an online source.
I can't find anything except the fact it is listed in Crystal keep (but not stated). The only thing I could think of is reverse engineering the Ohab-blessed choker in the monsters section. Or I could try to set up a picture using image-shack. The Creating a X part of the template only takes up ~1/4 of a page.

NO SANITY RESISTANCE FOR YOU
  Sad
But I'm a multi-armed monstrosity that shoots lazers from its hands, Could we at least get sanity resistance to our own abilities? Or do SLA trigger sanity loss?

Also I still haven't been answered on my feat question. (how does removing feat chains and Pre-requites interact with multi-weapon fighting?)

you dont have to roll sanity for your own abilities(except spells that are not SLAs).

as for the feats stuff, multiweapon fighting is replaced with a special version of the two-weapon fighting feat from races of war.

Wow... those sanity rules can potentially make it almost impossible to play a spellcaster... There are also a lot of variants. I think my character will be ok for the most part (high wisdom and no spells), but everyone should carefully look that stuff over as it will certainly have a dramatic effect on the game. I'm not complaining though. It looks quite fun. Big Grin

Also, which variants are you using from there Hijax? Can some spells cure insanity? If we're using the Wish economy stuff, and Wish can cure insanity completely, then it could lower the long term effects of sanity considerably, and if we have a reliable source of wishes it could become trivial.

Gotcha @ no paladin spell casting. Does Tome change skills at all? Short of the new in-class ones? Samurai's not getting Ride in-class is both infuriating from an historical standpoint is makes Bone Rider stupid to enter.

Knight 1/ Samurai 3/ Bone Rider 1/Dungeon Veteran 1/Bone Rider +4/PrC Pally 1

Assuming I can get Protection from Evil onto the Blackguard spell list  Confused

Going to have Spirited Charge + Kraoti Lance + Kai! + Valorious for x8 damage on a charge 3/day, and x4 all day. And I can make a charge attack at any point during movement as long as it was straight movement until then. Assuming Strength of 30... (1d10 + 15 + 6 + 1 + 2d6)*8= ~140, *4=~70. Sounds pretty good to me. And I get poor Blackguard spellcasting!

Fiendish Invisibility has a disclaimer that you must have a restriction. Such as, "Only in light" or "Only if you hold your breath" or "Only if you're touching the ground" What do you think about "Only while mounted"? I think it's actually less powerful then the example ones.

Phaedrus brings up a good point about Wish curing insanity and functioning in a Wish economy. How will that work?

EDIT: Oh god there's more! Anyone have any ideas for a CR 3 Huge undead mount?  Laugh Preferably that can fly...

if you get access to wish economy, getting sanity back will be easy.

however, maybe some sources of sanity are more difficult to cure  Devil

'only on mount' works just fine for fiendish invisibility.

Apply an appropriate template to one of these:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/monstrousCentipede.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/snake.htm#viperSnake

If you want flight, maybe you could make them dragonborn first?

Advanced wyvern zombie. 8 HD and up wyverns are huge, and 8-10 HD zombies are CR 3.

There are lots of other zombies that would work as well (10 headed hydra... advanced hippogriff, etc).

However... I suggest a cloaker, and with a bit of poetic license you could wear it as a cloak and have it carry you around, rather than traditionally riding it. The 10 HD advanced one would be huge, and still (barely) count as CR 3. And when you're not flying around/fighting with it, it will pass perfectly well for a cloak. Big Grin Have it awakened (Awaken Undead) and it gets back its moan and engulf abilities. The latter one can actually be a nice defense, as you can have it ready an action to engulf you if someone attacks you.

While I can't say I see how the sanity system works for this world, as it was designed more for lovecraftian settings, it willl certainly be interesting maneuvering around its idiosyncrasies.
If you guys are regularly raising undead minions, adding on monstrous features, etc., then everyone in the group's gonna end up losing a bunch of sanity until they become commonplace, though the rules even advocate eventually resetting it from common nature to being mind-shattering again.

Also, I agree that including the wish economy sort of breaks it, assuming you have frequent access to wishes. Wish cures any insanity, even permanent insanity, under the rules.

So Hijax, you said Book of Gears was allowed case-by-case but didn't address the area I asked about. The minor magic item rules make it so minor things, like enhancement bonuses on weapons/armor, ability bonuses, skill bonuses, etc, scale with level. If we're eventually entering the wish economy, that just saves us from spending time wishing for better bonuses on our items.

Hey, can I be a Xvart? (look in crystalkeep). Off hand, they have a -2 level adjustment (!!!!), and nothing that really hurts my build. Would that mean that I have 7 class levels and a +1 LA template? If I can do that, that is totally going to be my character right there.

And people. I can get you zombie horses for FREE, so don't bother buying them, if you have to. Given tinkering, they can also lose the slowness (Libris Mortis fast zombie template). Yes, I am going to optimize the Zombie Horde Master theme. Heck yah.

The only person who has been talking about taking a zombie mount is going to play a bone rider, which gets a special undead mount... with special abilities.

w/ a cap of 99 sanity points, doing ~50 / rnd sanity 'damage' is very effective.

Tell me about!

At least my character is just a really tall, well-built human. While uncommon overall, it's not unheard-of. Especially when there are so many tales of cyclopses and gorgons and minotaurs and the like. Big Grin
