Yes, funny, there was that big fight about how scouting sucks. Well... spotting is pretty hard, too, and at that range, only one cheesy ability would have enabled you to automatically see that.

Devanar was still praying. He glanced at Isul as he entered, but otherwise kept up his low chant.

The Drow in the hut sneered at the rodent-like creature, but said nothing, because Handromal was giving him angry stares again.

Deciding not to disturb the priest while communing with his god and ignoring the drow, Isul decided to keep an eye on the surroundings from within the shadows of the doorway. He doubted there were more creatures like those chimeras, but the desert had no shortage of hunters. There were also still possibly demons around that might be attracted to the sounds of battle, and it would be best to not be seen in favor of the large and noisy golem.

Intentional spot during my turn for a Spot 25. Not too much better >.<

Don't forget I have both Darkstalker and a Ring of the Darkhidden if it matters.

Impossible spot...

Maneuvers granted - Shield Block, White Raven Tactics, Mountain Hammer

Move to M34, Mountain Hammer, Half PA +10 - 17+16=33 6+9+23=38

Fast heal 6

Current hp: 33

If a hit, heal 7.

Torgthen had to admire the cat's fighting spirit; it would do a dwarf proud.

With his nearest foe dead, the dwarf hurriedly made his way to the last of the beasts, though temporally disabled it still posed a threat.

Relying the earth beneath him for support, he heaved his hammer toward the large beast.

In Round 6, everyone not beating on the chimera make reactive spot checks vs DCs of 29, 38, 41. Look at all the result spoilers in order.
People actively keeping watch can make a fourth check with their move action.

[If you make DC29]
From behind the ridge of a Dune about 100 yards away, something crawled into view - something blue-ish, scrawny and vaguely birdlike, but the dragon and goat heads that also crowded on its shoulders gave away a disturbing mutation, undoubtedly similar to those affecting the hapless creatures that had just been all but defeated.

[If you make DC 38]
There was another like it, next to it.

[If you make DC 41]
And a third.

The Bulette was very badly wounded by now, and kept howling in pain as fire and blade bit into it. Still, Doyle found that it put up an amazing resistance to his blade - even though it was bound, it was still not a simple matter of hitting it.

Azur burrows farther into the bulette's simple mind, figuratively tying it up for the puppet show to come.

OOC: another Will save as he tries to assert full control.

Mael is oblivious to whatever danger is nearing.

Impossible Spot checks are impossible.

It doesn't save.

It's mind is less simple that expected - certainly below that of an average human, but definitely above animal level. Also, there seem to be several minds at work, interlinked.

25 and 28, come on! Arg.
Isul kept his vision trained to the east, where he didn't have to stick his head outside of the hut to see. While it limited his field of vision, he felt he would have ample warning should anything attack the others standing in the open before they got to him.

It was a new and thrilling experience for Azur - several connected minds... and he the overmind. The maestro now had a small formation to direct! Too bad that this toy was to be broken so soon.

Azur felt the kernel of fear that had taken over the minds, and he beheld it from a distance. A wonderful, twisted thing - and it was his favoured disciple who was its sculptor. Mael had done him proud.

The devil then set to the task, facilitating the execution of their enemy by his temporary allies.

The bound chimera ceases to struggle, ceases to even tremble. Its throats are ripe for the blade.

[OOC]
It's helpless now. Feel free to Coup-de-grace.

ROUND 6

[Daelric]
You made one of the spot checks, any reaction?

[Mael]
I'm a bit lost as to the rounds, you need rounds 4 and 5 or 5 and 6 for your thing? I'm thinking at the latest the thing will be helpless in round 7. But whatever, my plans have not been foiled, yet - but narrowly so Smile.

Even as Doyle  lifted his weapons to finish off the burning chimera, an invisible force grabbed his blade and attempted to wrench it from his grasp.

At the same time, an invisible force attempted to literally take hold of Torgthen and grapple him to the ground.

[Doyle]
This happens just before your first chance at a CDG, which can happen at the earliest in Round 6, unless I'm very wrong about everything.

Disarm attempt, opposed attack roll 1: 21
Disarm attempt 2, opposed attack roll: 34
(you get a +4 bonus to resist due to holding a 2-handed weapon, I presume)
[Torgthen]
Grapple touch attack: 26; Grapple opposed check: 31
If you don't resist the grapple you are considered to be grappling for that round.

You said you were moving over there, but you hadn't specified a square. I'm assuming you're not too eager, at this moment, because if you do want to be there I'll have to divide up those Telekinesis attacks.

[ooc]
I'm going to wing the previous rounds. The critter will get around 50 damage extra from everyone involved Doyle and the MARC, and then we continue in Round 7.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12539144/Battlegrid_Oasis_round7.xls
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12539144/Battlegrid_Oasis_round7.pdf (this got a bit big)

That lump in the SE is supposed to be a Dune. Don't count every square to it, it's supposed to be around 100 yards away.

New Enemy's init: 11 and 19.

So far only Daelric is aware that something's there, but wait:
Cat's spot:
[1d20+11]->[2+11] = 13
[1d20+11]->[19+11] = 30
[1d20+11]->[18+11] = 29
[1d20+11]->[20+11] = 31
[1d20+11]->[2+11] = 13
Yay.

Cat was quite used to only watching his mindsight, but nevertheless, as he trotted away from the heaped body next to him, something caught his eyes to the south-east. He stared, trying to see more, but he couldn't make out anything else.
We got more company, he transmitted telepathically, with less relish than usually. I see a few heads, again... a blue-ish birdy-head in the middle, this time...

Any actions after this happen in round 7

I figure you passed my SR, with your higher HD critters.

I have no hope of making the grapple, small has its downsides...oh well I still enjoy it.

All of a sudden Torgthen was on the ground, and not of his own accord. Straining against some unknown force he tried to speak, "Urg...Yeh blasted handwaver, when I get a hold of you...!"

What is this, now?

Mael focuses on the direction Cat is indicating, but he cannot make out the enemy.
He incants another spell and a green and brown wall of tangled plants springs with barely audible crackling sounds from the dry sand, growing and growing until it obscures all view of the other side.

A new voice, different from Cat's and very self-assured, can suddenly be heard in everyone's mind.
"'Tis but an illusion"

[OOC]
Minor Image: he has 12 10ft cubes. Let's say he sets them in a rough diagonal, parallel to the dune and running from between the pond and the magical zone (AA38) to the tree in P54. He'll make it smaller and higher if it seems necessary to break the line of sight of whoever's on the dune.
He's concentrating on it.

Will DC 20 to disbelieve when interacted with. But IIRC you all get a save with a +4 bonus since you are warned.

Nice... this is why I don't think about how or even whether you can beat my encounters, it's just impossible to predict.

Illusions are weird: As long as they are just looking at them, they don't even get a save, AFAIK.

And... SR15 isn't really of help against enemies like these Smile.

I'm waiting for Doyle to either keep his sword and CDG or not. This will be a critical factor in how this plays out.

Gritting his teeth against the pull Doyle yanks his sword back towards himself.
1d20+20=30
1d20+15=22
believe the garbage roll on the last one takes the weapon from me.

struggling against the pull doyle feels his grip slip against the force.  He prepares to let the weapon go and recover his balance and footing against the new assailaint.

Yes, you hold the first one, but the second will succeed. However, you do NOT need to take an iterative for a reactive check vs. Disarm. Your bonus is still 20. Unfortunately, that still won't hold the sword.

But ok, great Big Grin.

The sword was wrenched from Doyle's grasp, it hung in the air, controlled by invisible forces. Then several things happened very quickly. A wall of plant sprang up from the sand, obscuring the view of the dune to the south-east. Doyle's sword dropped to the ground, and the grip on Torgthen lessened.

But then, out of the blue, creatures popped up around the party.

Two skinny black demons with long claws, feathered wings, and five heads, among them two dragon heads, one sharp-toothed demonic face, and two goat heads dropped right into the middle of the gathering, and took up flanking positions around Mael.

Two more appeared next to Daelric, and likewise moved to flank.

And finally, three scrawny, bird-like demons, with five heads like the others, popped up as a group in the center of the gathering. They took each other's hands, and began dancing around, while screaming in a cacophony of demonic and other voices.

It was a children's rhyme - or a variation thereof - clamoured in Common, Abyssal and Draconic at the same time in a ridiculous canon.

RING A RING........
......................... RING A RING O'........
.............................................RING A RING O' ROSES

And at the same time, a voice reverberated in everone's head.

LET IT GO! LET IT LIVE!

Everyone make a spot DC 20.

If you make it:
The demons seemed - if that were possible - even more emaciated than usually. And their skin was cracking in places, their eyes were redder, and their movements seemed... slow, and exhausted.

As the closer demons were hit by Mael's aura of awe, they wavered, but stood their ground - for now.
Babaus 1 and 2 don't save, Vrocks 1 and 2 don't save. Babaus 3 and 4 are out of range.

Map has been updated, same linke as before.

[Isul]
The demons are commonly known as Vrocks (the scrawny birdlike ones) and Babaus (the black skinny ones covered in slime... which looks a bit dried up...)

Failed spot.

Maneuvers granted - Shield Block, White Raven Tactics, Mountain Hammer, Battle Leader's Charge
Martial Spirit stance

Swift to stand, Coup our helpless foe, Full PA +18 - 13+93=106

Fast heal 6

Current hp: 46

If the hit goes through, heal 7.

Draws an AoO from Vro2.

The moment the force eased up, Torgthen stood swifter than one should be able to, in full armor.
