Just to keep things straight: I am down 76 damage currently (fast healing and DR included). BTW you DO get your AC bonus against the opponent that you are grappling, not that it makes a difference in this case...

Opposed check to keep Jaslach grappled: 39=25+14 http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2649233/  Jaslach remains grappled.

True Strike Activated Discharge Vents Bite: -4 to strike while Grappling: 12+9+20= Hits AC 41.

Assuming that hits here's the damage: 45+21= 67 damage http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2649236/

Let me know how that turns out...if that does him in or not and if you don't mind I'd like to describe what it looks like IC based on the result.  Thanks!

I think I deducted the shield bonus, since it's hardly probable you can use the shield in a grapple.

Anyway, that's a hit. You should specify which breath-weapon effect you are using, too.

With the force of the huge dragon-mouth's bite and the elemental damage it then blasted into the gash, the construct's eyes went wide, flared up for one last time, then the whole body went rigid, as the animating force left it, and crumbled into dust.
The rumbling voice wafted through the hallway for the last time.
'....about time...' it said, then there was a slight chuckle.

What was left of Jaslach was his empty jet-black chain-link armour and his grafts - the rollers, the stone spitters, and some other items.

Loot list will come on monday, I don't have all his stuff here I think.

What I have is this:
Large Infernal Armour (the evil version of the celestial armour from the SRD, minus the fly spell, I have to calculate the value).
Large +1 Glaive
4x Large +1 Aptitude Collision Stone Spitters
maybe some misc items, I have to check.

The stones seem to be holding their peace, not one of them budging.

[OOC]
Ready an action to grapple MARCV if it comes in range.

Don't worry TT it won't hurt you. Wink

With the force of a ram the mechanical monster's hand slammed into the stony warrior, spinning gears and hydraulic pistons clamping down on the vicious jaws of the dragon-fist.  The ancient evil construct's eyes went wide with surprise and the rock and armor that comprised it's body began to glow red hot as the towering clockwork giant pumped elemental fire directly into the wound.  Cracks rippled through his enemey's body releasing light and great gouts of fire and the Maug disintegrated into just so much more rubble littering the once proud Underkeep, the remains still glowing hot like embers.

"Hmmmm."   The giant seemed to grunt with hollow metallic satisfaction.

The jets of fire streaming from it's legs and the boosters on it's back powered down and closed up as it slowly lowered itself back to the ground. It's landing nonetheless shook the floor once more and with each step as it lumbered back into the central ring.  Looking up at the moving pile that now stirred in the flickering shadows, the giant planted it's feet firmly and with resolve.

"Friend or Foe?"   it asked.

Faster than one would have thought possible, an "arm" of stone - for lack of a better word given its twisted and uneven shape - springs out of the mound to embrace the triumphant fire-breathing construct.

Who might soon find itself in the position of submission his previous opponent had been forced to adopt moments ago...

[OOC]
Readied action vs MARCV:
Touch attack 28
Grapple check 66

I don't think you get an AoO since the mound is out of your reach, but that's up to BP: some DMs rule that you get to attack the limb. In that case hitting AC 11 (!) will prevent the grapple.

As the echoes of the gigantic clash died down, Mael decided to start creeping back towards the main cavern. He hadn't heard the cries of agony of any of his strange new companions, so presumably there was relative safety to be found there.

[OOC]
Double-move back to the cavern.

Sounds like we need a ruling here from BP...also I think we should roll initiative and determine squares before proceeding.  I never said I got within the things reach...

Ok, then I misinterpreted "it lumbered back into the central ring". Because if you go back into the central ring the way you came you enter his reach (an easy mistake to make since it has huge reach and no visible appendage).

Its init is after yours but it had a readied action... or is there a round mismatch?

Honestly I don't mind winging it since we're among PCs (but BP will slap my fingers! ;-)); the point is that MARCV is an unknown for now so until he makes a grand "I'm a good guy" speech he will be suspect. So... go ahead.

The clockwork golem had barely the chance to finish it's query when the animated debris lashed out.  The Dragon-tongue-sword flashed out swatting aside the "limb" before it could gain purchase.

"Foe."  The behemoth rumbled.  The hissing of steam vented from it's body as the whole construct seemed to split into seams and for a moment it appeared as though it was about to crumble into rubble itself.  Soon however it became apparent something else was happening.  Plates shifted and moved, rods telescoped outward and a moment later the whole disjointed package regrouped into a single entity...only now the mechanoid was no longer huge, but Gigantic.  Backing away slightly, circular ports opened at the top of it's massive spherical shoulders and two rings of strangely glowing metal sprang up like turrets.  Lightning arced between them, back and forth and casting the whole chamber in a bluish white glow.  A surge of energy flared through the giant and a great gout of electricity shot forth directly into the collossal moving mound.

29 blocks grapple.  5 foot step back, Arc blasters: 22 damage, ref save DC 29 for half damage.

Ok, it seems I have to catch up here:

First, I think the AoO is valid on a grapple attempt, even if the grappler has more reach. In some other occasions this might not be so. YES I know this makes grappling just a little worse. However, what I've never understood is why the grapple should fail in all occasions on a successful AoO. Someone who doesn't feel any pain like constructs or undead should be able to just go ahead anyway, because obviously the limb attacking isn't destroyed. I'm going to post this as a possible house-rule question in the ooc.

In the meantime you can go on...

Cat hung around next to Daelric and ogled the ensuing confrontation with awe.
How can these things be so big, and still move like that? he thought towards Daelric a little stupidly.
Should I be fighting any one of them?

Chipped stones flew as the huge arm was batted away, but the counter-attack didn't seem to slow the avalanche any: a few stones cracked, dust rising from them in puffy clouds, but the mound came on.

The arm made another sweep, still trying to grab its opponent.

[OOC]
I was tired thus unclear yesterday: I meant go ahead and forget the grapple (I had struck the text through) so we can talk.
However, since you seem happy to showcase the cool things your character does, we can keep this going a while longer.

Ref save vs lightning: 17 - failed. He takes 3 dmg (it has hardness, so electricity damage is halved then hardness 8 is applied).

Total dmg: 20 or 28 if your weapon is adamantine

- move 10ft
- Grapple (provokes): touch attack 34, grapple 68

“Don’t get involved yet”. Daelric nonchalantly muttered to Cat (or at least to where he suspected his invisible ally was), masking the fear he actually felt as the fight moved far too close for comfort [bluff 15].

Hastily, Daelric began backing away from the conflict [move to AH 37]

Mael reached the entrance to the center cavern, finally discovering what it looked like (not much). With only half his head sticking out, for he did not want to get noticed, he whispered to the empty air:
"Anyone still there? What happened?"

[OOC]
I don't recall if Mael cast Glibness recently enough, but if he hadn't he did it before approaching again.

The sword is adamantine.  Does that grapple check take into account that the size difference is now only 1 tier between the two?  BP can you help me calculate what my bonus/penalty is against this thing now that I am gargantuan?

[OOC]
Grapple modifiers only take absolute size into account, but comparing the checks makes it relative in a way. The size bonus is +4 per size above Medium, so +4 for Large, +8 for Huge, +12 for Gargantuan and +16 for Colossal. If you gained 1 size add 4 to the number BP gave you.

I don't quite expect you can beat this check, but I rolled well and it's one of the few strengths of an animated object.

Even if you rolled a nat 20 and have +16 from size that's only 36 you would need a strength or other modifiers totalling +32.   Twitch How is that possible? Every 10 Strength is only +5 to a check.  Does this thing have a 70+ Strength?  Basically having to beat a roll of 68 means I shouldn't even bother to roll since even with a nat 20 I'd max out at around a result of 50.  I PMed BP about a possible option that might help but failing that you should just stop toying with me and grapple already.  Unless I have some way of dodging and can then fly up out of it's reach...

Grapple bonus is BAB (24) + Str (9) + size (16) = 49. Roll was 19.
Before you curse me to all hells, recall that its AC is 11...

Don't forget your AoO.

Behold the weirdness of CR. That colossal pile of rubble is a plain and simple CR10 enemy. YES animated objects take big jump in power when they hit colossal. (But your last guy was level 12 or so at least.)

Thistle, unfortunately you did the one thing that you shouldn't do to the thing: get close. These are the perils of being a close-range combatant.

[Some more notes]
Omen: An animated object is by definition a creature, so it no longer takes half damage from ranged attacks or energy attacks. It keeps it hardness (of 8 for stone).

Thistle: You can keept taking one (or as many as you can) AoOs per round. You could also move away as soon as it's your turn. Which is basically whenever Omen has finished with a full-round action.
