Q 269: Ok, I have another Smile  How about a way to make an area consecrated (other than using the spell via scroll/wand/eternalwand/schema)?
A269 Sacred Exorcists (Complete Divine) get Consecrated Presence at level 5, which is basically a consecration aura.

Q270: What's the spell that lets you trade domains temporarily, and where is it from (CChamp, I think)?

Edit: Never mind. A270: Substitute Domain, CChamp.

For added fun, pair it with Spontaneous Domains (same source) and worship some patron with an absurd number of domains, like the entire Sovereign Host, then get Spontaneous Domains on a minor schema or three.  Nigh-spontaneous access to forty domains is fun.

A271: Ruathar (RotW)? Very easy entry; +5 BAB, 9 Rank in one Skill, or 3rd level spells.

Ah, that's the one.
There's a catch though, and no one ever reads that because it's on the second page.

Special: In addition, you must have performed a great service to an elf community, such as participating in defeating a monster of CR 10, recovering a valuable elven magical item, or risking death in order to save an elf's life.

And it's +6 BAB.

Truth be told it doesn't seem like all that great of a prestige, but it works.

Q 272: For those of you who have access to the module Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, can you explain to me why the vampire necromancer 10 (Count Strahd) is CR 15, when normally he should only be CR 12? And how he got those extra abilities?

That last special requirement is pretty simple, provided you have an elf in your party.

Or for an arena battle.

A272: Look at the description of Strahd after his stat block. His special strengths and weaknesses on page 7 and continued on page 9. He has several unique items and abilities that make him tougher due to his bond with the land and those items. I'm assuming they thought it was enough to justify a +3 bump in CR.

Dayheart alone is probably worth a +1 or 2 just for immunity to one of a vampire's greatest weaknesses.

Spontaneous Domains is also a spell? That's... rather nice... My character worships a custom deity in a homebrew world that has a ton of domains. I'm not even sure how many or what they are...

Minor Schema are like reusable scrolls, right? What book is that from? Also CChamp?

Minor Schemas are from Magic of Eberron.

I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

I suppose. I could always go for that myself at 20 HD if I wanted to, since I've already lost so many BAB to +0 multiclassing, but if you have no elf in the party (I'm the half elf) it makes it harder. Technically I saved an elf's life from a rust monster, but it was later found out that it was a setup where she was double crossed (she was supposed to get out by herself if things got too bad).

Yeah I suppose that's true. Like with Warduke having more wealth than a usual CR 18 should have, they gave him a +2 adjustment. I guess because of the Dayheart being a major artifact, that'd do it for him as well. Not too many villains have artifacts on their person afterall. The thing is it's not all that common so it's incredibly confusing. At least with Warduke they actually explained why his CR was higher than what's listed. Wish they'd have done that with the Count as well. Guess you're supposed to just guess. No

D'oh!  I was thinking of Eternal Wands.  MoE is probably the best / only source of schemas.

Spontaneous Domains is a feat, actually, from Complete Champion.  It lets you leave your domain slots empty, then cast any of your domain spells from them spontaneously.  And if you can swap out your domains on the fly, it adds a whole extra layer of flexibility (though mind the ten-minute casting time on Substitute Domains).

Meh, I don't have room for a feat. I already have the spontaneous domain casting alternate class feature (from PHB2, I believe) for the Illusion domain (He's a shadowcraft mage). Mostly I want to use Substitute Domain to access spells that I occasionally might find useful, but won't use all the time (like Contingency, Permanency, etc).

Q: 273 I've read and re-read the Gestalt rules, and I can't find anything re. multiclassing and possible xp penalties...

When creating a Gestalt character, does each class have to be within 1 level of every other class, on BOTH sides?  (For the moment ignoring favored classes.)  Or do you look at each side of the Gestalt as a separate character progression and check for xp penalties one side at a time?

I think the latter makes since, but I'm looking for a RAW reference I can show my GM.

Thanks
