What spells should I choose for my 4 battle sorcerer levels? Right now, I'm thinking Expeditous Retreat and Nerveskitter for 1st, and either Heroics or Wraithstrike for 2nd. I am amazed at how good some of the 0 level spells are, also. For those, I'm taking Prestidigitation, Ghost Sound, Dancing Lights, Message (holy crap this is good), and Launch Item (Tanglefoot bags at medium range? Yes, please. Big Grin ).

Bowen, I thought we had this discussion already and you said you couldn't persist our divine spells?

Phaedrus, as soon as we get the cash, I shall be requiring Nightsticks. Wink

No problem. We'll have to get some souls to provide the XP, though. I can get about 200 XP per dark craft/sacrifice (I can get a +64 modifier on Knowledge: Religion, and reroll the check it if it's bad), which is enough for a 5000 gp item, or maybe a bit more if we get fancy with all the modifiers in the BoVD (I could hit +70 pretty easily with those). So we'll need ~100 XP more per Nightstick.

Per the BoVD rules, souls are worth 200 gp, and 10 XP each. Agony is also worth 200 gp, but only 3 XP. A being can provide only 1 soul, but one dose of Agony per hit die. So the most efficient method of "harvesting" XP is to torture creatures to produce Agony, then trade the Agony to fiends for souls, and also use the original victims soul. So, we'll need a "victim" with at least 9 HD to torture, or multiple ones that add up to nearly that, per Nightstick (assuming we can trade them evenly... if we go with the selling stuff at half price, it might not be worth all the trouble, as opposed to just using the Agony and souls we can make).

Of course, we could also try to get some Reliquary Holy Symbols... They're cheaper per turn attempt, but you probably can't just craft them, and they need to be for the proper alignment, unless you can make a DC 30 UMD check...

And I can only wear one symbol at a time, but can carry at least two sticks. Wink

So 9HD to torture. That sounds fun. Big Grin

We could also use this, if you just want to provide the XP (or we don't have time for torturing a bunch of people and/or stealing their souls Big Grin ).
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060526a

Or we could try just buying the souls for 200 gp each, but you won't wind up saving much money by crafting then. I think I could probably "steal" one per item by using Magic Jar, also.

For the original game I was going to play the original Gabriel in, Lokyn and I (mostly him) put alot of thought into how to cheese out item creation tremendously. His whole character was built around it. Here is a trick he came up with to speed up the item creation process:

Quote
Instant Items

If the Creationist has acess to the Sculpt spell feat, the Spell Planar Bubble, and the spell Summon Monster II, and a Dedicated Wright, they can craft items, almost instantaneously.

Steps

   1. Start the Process with the wright (1 hour)
   2. Summon a Kaorti with summon monster II (1 Round)
   3. Cast a Sculpted Planar bubble to exclude the Kaorti an include the Wright. (1 Standard action)
   4. Accept the completed item from the Wright (Move action)
I don't know if we can meet all the prereqs for that (anyone got Sculpt Spell and can cast Planar Bubble?), but we might consider it for the future, if time constraints are an issue.

Of course... you could do alot more abusive things with this combo, too, but we should probably stay away from that. Big Grin

Also, about crafting, remember we can reduce the price of items with 40% with those rules in the DMG (Tshern already okay'd this way back when we were getting started Smile)

Phaedrus, if we don't have time to harvest, of course I'd offer my XP for the Nightsticks. I seem to have come upon an extra 5,000 recently anyways. Wink

@ Bowen: Blink I'll be right back. *goes off to check spells*

You mean making them racial specific and the like? If that's the case, we won't need do do any "harvesting". I can easily get the XP for them via a single sacrifice using Dark Craft/Knowledge Religion/Sacrifice, then. So I could have even more wealth if I abused that. Hmm... (just kidding Big Grin )

I have a few other low level spells I might get you to Persist also, Bowen (like Expeditous Retreat).

Tshern: What's Dispater's favored weapon?

Bowen: I'd like my Divine Retaliation persisted. And I have a Mass lesser vigor prepp'd so we can re-persist it if it gets dispelled somehow (which reminds me I can't wait until the next day so I can get my divine power and superior resistance back. Big Grin)

Phaedrus do you still have consumptive field? I'm wondering if I should get Bowen to persist it, or if I should keep my delay death as an emergency backup?
