Yeah, I love my Warbeasts. They have a set cost in the template (in MMII) for those who don't know... my traditional mount for any stealther type is a Magebreed Warbeast Desmoderu Hunting Bat. Cheap, stealthy, and decent in combat for its price, plus it can go anywhere and can detect invisible enemies (note the errata though, it has Blindsense not Blindsight). Up it by one HD if you're a medium sized character.
Plus, I don't think I've ever made a starting level 1 character without a Magebreed Donkey or Mule. At 16gp they're too cheap to worry about, and they can carry PLENTY of stuff, plus they can fight decently (ish)!

550 gp, medium sized warshocker lizard... that's 50' land 30' climb and 30' swim... now add a cage with 5 regular shocker lizards in a cage on the saddle... thats 12d8 of electric damage in a 20' raduis... 6 times in the intiative order.

Although I dont think you can get a Warbeast animal companion, druids from Breland automatically have acces to magebred animal companions, which are also free.

You can just train your animal companion with Handle Animal checks. I think you need to make DC 25 for a month.

Well, it's DC20 + HD for two months. If your animal companion has a few bonus HD already, it gets a bit harder. I also think that this template is of more use for its ridiculously cheap market price than for giving a few more bonuses to an AC, but if you can train yours as a druid, sure, it's an easy boon. Basically this template puts the entire Beastmaster (or what it was called) class to shame....

So Magebred just doubles the price? Hmm...

so, I'm actually working on making a Warbeast Riding Dog for a campaign I'll be joining in the flesh soon. The Template got him from 2 to 3 HD, so I have another feat to work with and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I already gave him Power Attack instead of the generic Alertness.

Bind Vestige. Hidden Talent, Martial Study, etc. All of these things, if allowed, beat most other feats hands down. If not, Combat Reflexes might be good, if you can get him enlarged somehow. Improved Unarmed Strike + Improved Trip, combined with "combat training" which gives him the same trip attack as the wolf, is also good.

O, Martial Study... Crusader's Strike...Drop PA and take Martial Stance for Martial Spirit as well... Nicely powered, flavorful even.

Since this was already running high-op for the campaign, I went with Vanguard Strike and Power Attack.

Actually, I like the bind vestige idea - the animal might be haunted, or perhaps it could be a side effect of being magebred =P

What's wrong with animals in stances? Mounts with Island of Blades are way cool. O, Martial Study... Crusader's Strike...Drop PA and take Martial Stance for Martial Spirit as well... Nicely powered, flavorful even. I'd probably go with some Shadow Hand and Island of Blades, but... I guess for low levels either is fine. Though I don't think they can get it with only 3HD. Don't they need IL1 (2HD) before they can take Martial Study or Martial Stance?
