Have met into a small issue. My current character; a cleric of Heironeous, is dungeoning in the catacombs of the city. The path back to the city is likely to be long and sometimes inaccessible. As such, it may be likely that the adventuring group might be forced to spend several days in the catacombs.

As clerics are required at a stipulated time to pray for spells, I am wondering if there is any way which i could use to identify the time required. All i could find is Firmament Stone from Dungeonscape but it seems to be an expensive item just for telling the time. Anyone else has any idea?

I assume you're around the low levels.

110 gp is honestly rather cheap already, the only cheaper option would to be to ask for DM concession. Say, asking your deity for leniency on that aspect, or perhaps getting one of these as a freebie from the church. Perhaps find a plant which blooms at a specific time.

Opps, my mistake. I somehow appended another trailing zero and had assumed it was 1,100 gp. Yes, 110gp is not too expensive for what it does.

I'll kill you before you're born.

Use a useful abstract time such as "bed time" or "before breakfast". Instead of something like "when the sun comes up" or a set "6:34am" time.

Also, there is no standardized time in those ages. Hell, even though our cell phones and computers sync to almost the same for some stupid reason there are 6 different times at work based off which clock you look at. Good luck trying to get the poor eyesighted bishops glancing at the stars to agree on the time let alone you maintaining the same numbers as they do, luckily barring all the planets aligning to open some locked seal to let an uber evil deity out no one even cares to know anything time wise other than if the sun is starting to go up, directly overhead, or almost down.

Stuff like "First thing you do at the beginning of the day" works fluff-wise.

Ask your DM. If he isn't too anal retentive, he might just say that you intuitively know when to pray, as you have a strong spiritual connection to your god. I know I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.
