Keeping an eye on the backs of his comrades while looking out for any thing else acting in a threatening manner towards his person or the one tent still occupied was no mean feat but Russo took it up with reckless abandon.

Pingo is tense with anticipation of combat. If it was cannibals they hunted then revenge would be sweet, taking their lives was like letting a child run free in a candy store, it was pure glee. He supposed it was a bit bad for his soul but for fuck's sake, they had taken his tongue! So let the hatred run abound.

But Pingo couldn't shake the feeling that something more evil than the cannibals was out there tonight.

Richard, Pingo, Eisen, Kestrel
With the relative safety of the camp's low fire behind you, you plunge deeply into unknown darkness in your careful pursuit/tracking of the torch bearers.

Pingo discovers a mens English leather boot along the way -- scuffed, muddy, and beaten to hell. It hadn't been there long.

Still they followed the trail, their flashlights barely cutting through the dense jungle.

After a while the barefooted prints began to look as if their owners had begun to lengthen their strides.

LISTEN checks.

Russo & Loder
The four men stepped into the dense curtain of foliage one at a time, then vanished. It has been long since now, and the two of you plus Esteban and The Kid find yourselves alone around the campfire, listening to the night.

Listen checks and any actions you wish to take.

Russo & Loder
The sounds of the jungle continue unabated now as the two of you hear the crackle of the small fire.

The Kid creeps up behind Russo and whispers loudly, "How come you aren't going with them Russy? You have the biggest gun out of them all!" He tosses a rock into the fire.

Esteban stood vigilant near the mules, holding his brother's rifle.

Richard & the Hunting Party
You hear the sounds of angry shouts from up ahead. But they don't seem to be at all directed towards your direction. Something was going on in the area just ahead.

Through the trees you can make out large stone structures, silhouetted by immense bon fires. You can smell the wood smoke and the scent of cooked meat. There is a heavy metallic odor in the air as well that seems vaguely familiar.

Okay, you guys have a choice. You don't know the situation yet inside, but if you could enter the map where would you like to come in at along the bottom. There is the stream along the left cutting through the Mayan ball court. You could come out from behind the low structure near the center or the woods near the bigass pyramid.

Mal
You see that big 40' tall pyramid on the map photo in the Lounge? You've manage to get caught up at the top of the pyramid, just inside the room at the top.

All around you, but not too close, are pissed-off cannibals. The only reason they haven't fallen upon you to kill you in a blood-thirsty rage is because you are using one of their own, probably a chief or shaman, judging from his feathered get-up, as a human shield.

A dead cannibal lays dead at the top of the stairs. A single bullet hole in his forehead and a pool of blood and brain fluid surrounding him seeping into the ancient stone. All along the stairs are cannibals wielding spears or bow & arrow. A few hold bloodied machetes in their white-knuckled grip.

Mal shouts at the natives. "I'm not on the menu! Get back or Sitting-Bull here gets the next bullet!"
He is constantly moving his gun to point at any natives that he thinks are going to try and approach, while holding his captive's own knife to his throat.

Pingo trembles with blood lust, it took all will to hold himself back from plunging straight into combat. This scene was a little more than vaguely familiar to him. The fires, the odors, the shouting. He grips his blade until his knuckles turn white and drops his torch into a nearby puddle. He begins to sign to Bones. "I think it's cannibals ahead. You know what I want to do. Can we? I won't pester you anymore for binge drinking", he smiles at the last bit to show his old friend he was teasing him, but Bones would probably notice his eyes were still full of blood. Kill his family and take his tongue eh? Probably would have skipped on that one had you known he would devote all his spare time to killing your tribe. Pingo listened some more then continued, "Sounds like they are angry about something. We should at least investigate". His other hand reached for his spear. Did he have the will power to just "investigate"? Probably not.

Seeing the stream and potential cover, Eisen points over to where the stream cuts through one of the old buildings. Whispering to his mates, he says "See that stream? If we use those buildings as cover with those trees, right side of the stresm, we could probably survey the scene and the noises without being spotted. Also, if push comes to shove, we could use the stream as an escape idea, if it's deep enough and fast moving enough. Bad idea, but an idea nonetheless. Do we want to leave the others back at camp, to make sure we have a safe point? Or bring them back up to us?" Pingo looked eager, ut Eisen was sweating; they had been interrupted during the first shift of the night, and he was eager to lock himself in a safe room and get some rest. But they couldn't do that now; something was amiss.

Eisen, Richard, Kestrel, Pingo & Bones
In the darkness your group approaches a crumbling stone wall corner.A shallow stream only ankle deep in most places cut through this Mayan structure. Fallen stone brick lay scattered across the grassy ground on both sides of the stream. This structure (A) appears to be a long rectangular walled courtyard of some sort. Sloped stone ramps leading reaching as high as ten feet in the air stand across from each other on either side.

The stream itself runs to the northeast. Waist-high grass chokes the open ground, wherever there aren't any trees. Angry shouts can be heard from the East. Through the trees, you can catch glimpses of firelight.

Mal
The savages, arrayed as they were across and down the face of the pyramid were holding back... for now. In your grasp the squirming native struggles a bit in your grasp, but not too much. A thin line of blood traces his throat where the blade of the knife had already cut due to squirming too much. He'd begun to learn when he'd seen how serious Mal was. After all, what was it to Malcolm at this point anyway. His entire party had been killed, cooked and mostly eaten right before his very own eyes. His back was literally against a wall, stone and cold as it was. The native must know that his comrades were deciding his fate even now-- deciding if it would be worth the loss of one more mouth to feed.

They shouted angrily in their native tongue. Gibberish as any you've ever heard. But it was SCARY, not funny right at this moment.

Far below you could see the large heaping bonfires rage into the night.

Russo & Loder
It's been a number of minutes since the others left the relative safety of the campsite. Loder and Russo continued to keep watch, as did The Kid who peered intently into the jungle darkness to the north of the camp-- towards where Bones & Pingo.

"Golly! It's awfully dark-- Do you think Mister Richard and Pingo will be able to keep Bones and the others out of Trouble?" The Kid says. He has a concerned tone to his voice.

Mal begins looking around for anything he can use as a method of escape. I'm guessing a couple of shields to use as a sled down the steps.

Do i have my other gear as well Jace?

Mal
You managed to grab your gear, but that was also what got you noticed-- after you had escaped the southern stone structure of rooms where you and your party had been kept, you crept up to where your groups gear was piled towards the southwestern corner of the 40'+ tall pyramid. You hadn't intended to get cornered up here, but that is what happened as you began to get surrounded. Your gun was inside your bag, and you weren't able to withdraw it until you reached the top.

Spot Check please.
