How some people think that Avatar is God's own shit.
I mean, sure, it's pretty (with its budget, it simply HAD to be), but it's about as mind-blowing a nerf gun headshot. It's basically The Last Samurai, except with mecha, no Tom Cruise, and told more poorly.

I and the friend I watched it with equated it to Dances With Wolves in space.
The mech vs. giant jaguar thing fight near the end was pretty awesome, though. They also fell into the same trap any story with an irredeemable, batshit insane colonel is bound to fall into: they made said colonel the most badass fucker in the whole goddamn movie.
Over on the Gleemax form, someone misspelled 'worshipper' as 'warshipper'. I responded by saying that I ship Cold WarxVietnam War. We should totally make this a new meme.

I'd say two of those three are improvements. (j/k, I actually think Tom Cruise is a great actor... even if he is batshit crazy). My wife and I saw it in 3d, and liked it.

I'd liken the movie to Princess Mononoke, but instead of Ashitaka helping both sides, he says screw you humans, you suck and you're (almost) all evil. Seriously, main character has a permanent condition that majorly affects his life, the goal of the humans is mining, nature vs technology, the permanent condition is removed by the end, it's all pretty much there. Oh, and the first half was pretty great, acting was great, story teling was great, everything was great, but the second half was just pretty. And had some nice action scenes. But the story/acting became generic.

I dunno, I thought the interactions between Jake and the Na'vi were pretty formulaic for the most part. Honestly, I think the movie would've been better if they'd given the humans a better motive than 'money' for really really wanting the unobtanium. It's hinted twice or so in passing that the earth may be a dying planet, but that's about it. Also... unobtanium? Really? Sure, it's a nice lampshade and all, but it really broke my SoD when they first brought it up.

Yeah, the name thing for the ore also majorly pissed me off.
Also, I wouldn't liken a Miyazaki film to Avatar. For one, it's an unfair comparison since the medium of acting and the medium of hand-drawn animation doesn't make for a good comparison.
Also, I'm fairly sure Mononoke didn't have the badass coronel from hell.

I am aware of the phenomenon and I actually approve. Seriously. I'd never do it myself, mind you. But I see men in many ways similar to myself, men who have no place in modern romance who will never be accepted by modern women. Kindred spirits across the pacific, so to speak.

Ok yeah... that was really dumb. And I liked the Colonel. Yeah, it's an overdone trope, but it is still fun.

A gygaxian dungeon is like the world's most messed up game show.
Behind door number one: INSTANT DEATH! Behind door number 2: A magic crown! Behind door number 3: 4d6 giant bees, and THREE HUNDRED POUNDS OF HONEY! They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.
Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.
Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time. I give you much fu. Three Errata for the Mage-kings under the sky, Seven for the Barbarian-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Monks doomed to die, One for the Wizard on his dark throne In the Land of Charop where the Shadows lie.

The monk. Though even he was MUCH more human in Mononoke. Also, though there are some similarities and points of comparison that can be made between acting and voice acting and these two mediums, I was mainly pointing out the similarities between directing, storytelling, and storyline. And yeah, the unobtainium? Though it was mentioned that the Na'vi have naturally occurring carbon fiber in their bones, so maybe the unobtainium was just carbon fiber deposits? That they called 'unobtainium' because they thought it wasn't possible or something? At least they didn't dwell on the stuff, it was just mentioned in passing when it was. All that's really important is that they were there for a substance that was very valuable, and they had to dig it out of the ground to do so, and it was near the surface so they were going to strip mine it.

Yeah, I've heard about that. It seems that people with eczema will go to this fish pond and let small fish nibble off the dead skin and stuff. From what I hear, it does help. It clears the old dead stuff out and encourages blood flow to the skin.

Dito, but by simply reading "Dr.Fish" and watching the mental pic of a fish in a scrub, checking your pulse made me laugh quite a lot
