Oh! Those are rare, cute, mini Bobs! I want one!

I'll get you one if you can catch a Latrodectus bishopi and send it to me.  They're somewhat rare, but they're both beautiful and highly venomous, making them a true prize.

Yes, if there are weird spiders where anyone lives, I will pester you to mail me one at least once.

I can buy them for $5 each, they take exceptionally well to captivity and breed like crazy.  I'm considering getting a few so I could show them to people.  One of my pet peeves is people calling every medium brown spider a "brown recluse".  They don't live in my area, they don't live anywhere humans do which means they die off every winter if they do exist here, and you'd have to be an arachnologist to identify one.

My apartment complex is on teh outskirts of town (its more expensive but also much, much more peaceful).  There are  huge grassy fields around us, and every autumn when it starts to get cold the spiders and assorted critters begin trying to hole up in the apartments.  I've seen a couple of recluse, but fortunately for me they're always being eaten by half a dozen of the hundreds of wolf spiders that invade each year.  Its a darn good thing im not an arachnophobe...

You know, the more I think of it the more justified I find Twilight.

Vampires in modern culture are about unrestrained sexuality.  Twilight is basically a retelling of the same stories that have been told by Hollywood and literature for some time now, except in a way that teenaged girls (and women who never grew up) can understand.

I don't particularly care for the movies and books though.  But I at least see where they're coming from.

Stories have to be poorly written with bad characterization for modern women to understand them?

My problem comes from the double standard applied here: I'm peculiar for being even slightly obsessive over Star Wars or something else, but it's perfectly acceptable for Twilight fans to...well, just look at some of them! And they wonder why I scowl at the mention of it.

You do realize that at least on some levels Twilight is Mormon propaganda right?

vampire stories have a long history of appealing to the lesser gender.

dracula was a love story. featuring a vampire.

twilight is the high fructose corn syrup of vampire stories.

the only saving grace being the Kevin Smith angle.

I once asked an online friend of mine what was it about vampires that appealed to women so much.

She basically replied that vampires are a no-frills masculine figure that could take whatever it wanted by force without actually hurting, and that the whole act of blood-sucking was an allusion to penetration - essentially, causing pain and pleasure at the same time on a tender spot.

So that got me thinking: okay, so vampire female fans want to be fucked in the neck?

So getting bit in the neck doesn't hurt?
I hope your friend will forgive me for not wanting to try that out.

Personally, I like this interpretation best.
