As everyone here (should) know, optimisation is not mutually exclusive with good roleplay. Therefore, this challenge. The object is to create a highly optimised character that nevertheless has a strong character concept and well developed backstory. Like the Iron Chef challenges, dishes must be prepared at levels 5, 10, 15 and 20, and a "sweet spot" of your choosing.

So, the secret ingredient, the concept you must adhere to for this challenge is:

Defender of the forest

Druid 20.

Druid 20 is a defender of the forest, and has been for his whole life.

I believe this is game, set, and match, sir.  Clap

Big Grin Nah, If I were doing this concept, I'd probably do something more interesting like a Fist of the Forest/Divine Crusader of Obad Hai, with a level of Contemplative in so I could have the plant and animal domains. Then I'd just go standard monk gish, and shapechange into a dire polar bear and lay the hammer down.

The everyman

Factotum 11/Chameleon 9

This character is devoted to being able to do as much as possible competently. He feels that to specialize is to invite weakness and true strength comes from being versatile. His preferred weapon is a +1 Morphing Sizing _______, He has forgotten what it was initially. He has been touring the world to acquire even more skills and knowledge.

And this guy defends the forest? Tongue

Maybe if he was an undead (necropolitan) fusion of all the people who died in a certain forest, and thus can call on their memories and abilities...

Now to make a Blighter who defends his forest by destroying all other forests so that his forest will spread over the ashes and take over the world!

I seem to have misread the requirements.

Wouldn't it make more sense to bring to us a crazy multi-classed build and ask for a reasonable & flavorable explanation as to the optimization decisions?

I agree.

And this is a silly challenge when the best answer is Druid 20, for both optimization AND roleplay.

I know Druid is the obvious answer, but I think a Spellguard of Silverymoon would fit well too. After all, aren't the Spellguard forest guardians or something in their fluff?

oOo...

Sounds like a perfect time for my VoP Feral Jungle Dwarf Deepwarden FotF Forsaker, defending the Underdark's forests of fungal growths, lichens and cave trees.

You need an idea that can't be filled by a base class.

'nuff said.

Witty sayings? Nah, not right now. Currently playing Dwarf Fortress and League of Legends. I really recommend League of Legends.

Lightning Warrior 20.  Sacrifices some power for fluff, it's true - but it fits the "defender of the forest" theme so perfectly!

I've been thinking this over and you can take some different approaches.

Non-magical: Rikilan Rogue/Master Inquisitor or Rikilan Rogue/Watch Detective

Magical: Divination mage or Seer Psion.

I think a Human Rogue 1/Diviner 5/Unseen Seer 10/Fatespinner 4 would make for a superb detective.  He'd have 19th level diviner spells, plus all of the gather info, etc. skills that are useful for non-magical methods.

Jordain Vizier, someone with hypercognition, or both. Find a way to get Bardic Knowledge and add in a Marshal dip for Motivate Intelligence.

I seem to remember a build like that having been made before, but I'm unable to find it.
