Inspired by the master player race list, here's a list of LA +1 and LA +2 races without racial HD. At this moment, the list should include all races from non-setting books + FR, Eberron & Dragonlance races + Dragon Compendium races. Templates are not included. The list also does not include various tiny dragons or phaerimm that advance by growing.

Nifty list, thanks for printing it Smile  I don't think an exact list of 1HD races with +1 LA has been done, though there are the threads on "LAs that are really worth it" on gleemax.

By the way, half-ogre was updated in races of destiny to 0HD, +2 LA.  It's worth noting Sad

LA Buy Off with LA+1s, is very simple to describe.
Party reaches level 4, you buy off the LA, you are now level 3.
Party reaches level 4+, you are now level 4.
Party reaches level 5+, you are now level 5.
etc until
around level 10, you have caught up in exp.
The difference in the exp numbers, in less than 1/2 of 1 encounter;
and this measures exp awards the exact same, for the whole party.

Even simpler-y put, LA+1 in bought off at level 4, and disappears by level 10.
At level 10, it is effectively a free level of stuff.

I looked up the Greensnake Naga.  What the hell were they thinking?  +14 to stats for LA+1 with no drawbacks?  This is on the same level as the Half Minotaur template at least.  That one at least does have the drawback of a hit to INT!

What about draconic, feral, mineral warrior, shadow-walker and all the rest +1 templates? The list already has half-ogre and feytouched, so they should be ok as well.

Linguist, you lost me here, and it's probably because I don't often use OA or Dragon material.  What does having a familiar have to do with half-minotaurs or the Greensnake Naga?

The Half-ogre isn't a +1LA race anymore, the latest version of the race is from Races of Destiny, and that book lists it as +2LA.
