Developing a relaxed attitude to danger.

Christian, Lucilius, and Anderan emerge from the stalls of the marketplace in time to see a panicked crowd moving aside, revealing an elf walking slowly and deliberately towards Krim. In his hands, he cradles a long, metal tube inscribed with odd glyphs. As he approaches, he calls out, "It's been quite a while, Xephon! Quite a while. You don't remember me, I'm sure. No, you were always too busy trampling Glarthir underfoot in your attempts to win the approval of Cannith."

A DC 20 Knowledge (arcana) check reveals that those runes are symbols of chaotic magic. Alternatively, a Detect Magic effect reveals the tube to have a strong aura of transmutation about it.

Lucilius gives Krim a quizzical look out of the corner of his eye while moving his hand to his sword hilt.

Krim was off in his own world, again. He seemed to just aimlessly glance around until his gaze finally fixated on the nearby warrior. "Oh, hello. Can I help you, lad?"

Krim's inattentiveness seems to enrage the elf even further. "Why you--PAY ATTENTION TO ME! I will not be ignored like I was by the contractors--and by you!" He takes several breaths, trying to calm himself. "Alright. If you just agree with my demands, I won't be forced to use this. First off, drop all your magic items. All of them."

Lucilius steps forward, slipping into a tone the others have not heard before. "Do we have a problem here, my good sir? If there is an issue, I am sure we could find a proper place to resolve it. A marketplace full of civilians and merchants is not the place. Now, let's all take one deep breath and think before we act."

Lucilius makes a pointed note of giving both the elf and the party stern glances.

Are you.... An officer of the law! I've never had the chance to really meet an enforcer: to see one, to know one, to love one. You have my regards as a do-gooder, a lover of order.

Christian curtsies and respectfully takes off his hat.

Diplomacy checks from Jose, and Ari if you think your remark merits one.

Sage scowls. I can detect a fain evil from this one. Be wary of him.

Anderan, you need to state that you're using Detect Evil-it's not constant. In the event that you are, he doesn't show up as evil.

The elf shouts, "All of you, shut up! I'm not dealing with you, so stay back or you'll end up wishing you had!"

Lucilius steps forward, raising his voice and gripping his sword hilt firmly. "Enough! If you have an issue, settle it in private. It will not be settled here."

The tube swivels to face Lucilius, then wavers back towards Krim. "You don't think I'd do it, do you? I would, though! If I had to, I'd blow through all of you to get to him! That won't be necessary, though, if you just do what I say. Drop the weapon, you, and anything magical you're carrying."

Lys quietly circles around a merchant stall and gets behind the elf.
