John nods and moves over to the trapdoor, readying his gun for any potential enemies.

Ready action to shoot anything obviously hostile.

Eisen trains his gun on the entrance of the trapdoor; should anything emerge and act hostile, Eisen would not have hesitated to put a bullet through it. The whole town was bad, and his guide had disappeared in a very suspicious manner; now, there might be someone with the ability to explain ever so slightly.

Loder stands above the door, on the hinged side and grasps the handle firmly before looking at the others.  He mouths the words as he counts to prepare them.  "One...  Two...  Three!"

Dr. Loder heaves the door up as quickly and suddenly as he can...

Below the trap door, you can see that there is a crawl space of about 2-3 feet beneath the floorboards.

Nothing jumps out to attack. In fact. You don't see anything. If anything opening the trap door has made what scant noises you have heard disappear entirely.

You'll have to take a better look perhaps.

Stepping out from behind the door, Loder looks into the crawlspace and calls out in Spanish.  "¿Hola? Es seguro ahora, nosotros no le lastimará. Soy doctor."

There is no response from the crawlspace. But the Doctor hears shuffling in the darkness below.

Loder slides his pistol back into its holster.  Whispering to the others, "Try not to shoot me by accident, okay?"

Standing at the edge of the trap door, he calls out.  "Ahora estoy bajando, yo no le lastimaré."

He then sits down with his legs dangling into the hole and slowly slides himself in, trying to avoid making sudden movements.  Switching on his flashlight, he crouches and takes a look around.

Its dirty, but not muddy, here below the stone chapel.

Loder's flashlight sweeps across the crawlspace and he sees...

"Oh my god..."  Loder slowly crawls forward out of sight.

From above, the others in the church can hear his voice coming from the dark crawlspace.  "¿Por qué está usted abajo aquí, cuál sucedió?"

Reluctant to leave the Doc to his own devices, John jumps in after him to provide backup should the need arise.

"You guys keep an eye on this hatch and the rest of the church, ya hear?" he says to Eisen and Max before disappearing underground.

Eisen meanwhile has his gun helf from the shoulder and is scanning around, from the entrance to each of the latched windows, looking for anything that might be watching from the outside. He had a bad feeling... and did the main warriors in the group just leave Russo and the transporters alone where someone was already killed. "Doctor, if it's a person, bring it with us; we probably shouldn't be leaving Russo alone in that building, machine gun or no. What have you found?"

Seeing a group of women and children hiding in the back, John slowly puts away his gun, hoping to show the villagers he doesn't mean any harm, and says to Doc Loder "Do you see them Doc? Think you can reassure them we're not the bad guys and ask what the hell happened here?

He then continues to Eisen and Max "We got civilians down here, women and children. Try not to scare them if Doc can convince them to come out, okay?"

Loder slowly moves a little bit towards the frightened women and children.  "¿Qué sucedió aquí? ¿Por qué usted está ocultando?"

Is it fair to think we could have heard the gunshot from Russo's pistol?
