There's little Planar Shepherds can accomplish (except for the wild shaping options that are easily duplicated at this level) that cannot be done in a more versatile manner with a Planar bubble.

Dispater would only get that +8 if you are trying to modify the surrounding planar traits, I seem to remember...
Isn't there some way to make some sort of Epic Uber Acorn of Far Travel, that would treat the area around you as being somewhere else?

On a strange note, would anyone be put out if we had a post about people or events we can spare a thought for, or if its within their creed, a prayer for? Sounds fine to me. probably over on "Off-topic". might want to put a little disclaimer in the first post. This is the Min/Max board. We should be able to figure out a way to optimize the POWER OF PRAYER(TM) that doesn't involve "Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu". |

Now that finals are over I have some time to finish my character and run it. Tshern, if there is any time in the next month that you would be able to run a challenge then I will make sure I am ready by then.

I've got most of the summer. Still not done with my exams and after those there's a load of stuff to do before I leave the UK. The earliest date I could possibly start a challenge on would be the 11th of June or so.

To put my previous post in a more straightforward form: Assuming someone is still interested in this ancient display of brain gymnastics, I can run it over the summer. Even before the 11th of June I can answer to questions and comment on character ideas, but that is about it. Also, I have some other points I'd like to share. Comment on them if you wish. - I have not monopolised Dispater. Anyone can pick up the job and quite probably fare better than I have. As you may have noted, I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer and probably not the best DM option.
- Unless I am horribly mistaken, I lost all my notes about Dispater's items, prepared spells, tactics, contingencies and general trickery. Hence the period of notice.
- If someone actually wants to have a go at this I would not mind being contacted about that, no matter who the DM is. I've spent countless hours working on this, so any discussion about is tends to be interesting to me.

Would binding Kezef the Chaos Hound (Champions of Ruin) be allowed to use his Flawless Tracker ability to find Dispater? That seems to be the best way to do it.

That would be a long term plan indeed judging from the flavour parts of the Gates of Hell. Nothing is stopping a challenger from trying that, but it is not exactly impossible to stop Kezef. What I find most annoying is the vague mechanics of the Flawless tracker ability. For example, if Kezef tracks through the life of the creature he hunts, does he go through those places? Let's assume Dispater has been in a vat of fire for a million years, should Kezef spend 250k hours standing there as well? Urgh.

Personally I have several ideas for dealing with Kezef and others with similar abilities. After all, finding Dispater is a big part of the challenge, so I have decided to keep his location quite clandestine. How that has been achieved shall not be disclosed until someone else takes over the challenge. At that point I can spill the beans freely, since the new DM is likely to find all new means to protect his charge.

Always room for prospective corpses. Honestly though, the average level of possible challengers has gone up astonishingly since I took over and vastly moreso when compared to the very first attempts. Oh boy.
