...Widened Spell and Enlarge Spell are useless on many spells unless you use both of them together?
Many of the spells that have both an area and a range (such as lightning bolt and cone of cold) make WS and ES useless because if you extend the range the area doesn't expand, and so you still end up with a 60 ft cone of cold. If you expand the area the range doesn't expand, and so once again you end up with a 60 ft cone of cold.
The range entry needs to be erased from such spells, because by definition that's where the spell effect originates from, despite the text in the body of the spell. IE, it extends from your hand. Unless 'your hand' can be anywhere within 60 ft (or 120 ft for lightning bolt), something is wrong.
I erased all such range entries from my psionic powers revision, because they don't make any sense, and otherwise left them as-is.
Though I suppose you could use Widen Spell to double the width, rather than the length, of such spells, which goes against how everyone I know of (or have heard of) uses them (of course, the range entry is STILL redundant)...

Now that you mention it, you are right. I believe the intent behind the feats is different from the wording, personally. But good find.

Interesting. I'd never really thought about it before. I tend to use all those nice 20-foot radius Conjuration spells.

Can you make a list of the spells that have confusing ranges for the purposes of these two feats? It would be a good idea to make this more clear when creating house rules.

And HOW many thousands of spells am I going to have wade through? Just go at them in a case-by-case basis, and use Widen and Enlarge like they already are.

Yeah, it seems like a pretty easy house-rule fix. Just look at the spell block, and adjust the range when needed.

Yeah, I'd noticed this before, but never bothered bring it up because I've never seen anyone use either of those feats, except for the psionic version of Enlarge.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?
Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

Currently using this as a house rule already. In addition, sculpt spell adjusts range and area simultaneously for the cone and line modes (which works by very loose RAW).

I've never noticed, but this is probably one of the differences of RAW and RAI
