Yeah, it's kind of funny how well-balanced the holiday special stuff is, considering WotC's normal varying power levels. I have to assume that they showed it off to the whole office, or something.
Anyway, cheshire cats can swap out their racial weapon focuses for feline feats, which is cool.

Continuing the derail, I have this urge to build some kind of Psywar/Primeval cheshire cat just so that there's a giant, vicious, sabre-toothed cheshire cat in the party. Horribly unoptimized, though.

Gotta smack myself for not including the Fanged Ring earlier. IUS plus INA plus Con damage on a critical hit, for 10K? Is there a monk or unarmed swordsage out there who WOULDN'T want it?

From the cat special, the collar of perpetual attendance is unlimited unseen servant for only 2k. Wait...can Factotums use the feline only skills if they aren't felines?

Not sure, actually, since it says "can only be used by felines with ranks in the skill", so even if you get ranks you might not be able to use them without polymorph et cetera.

You could just use a shifter. Many groups apparently cannot view them as anything other than catgirls. Yes, even the ones who grow wings.

Who in the original sentai footage was a bird-girl. As a result, she ends up having an attack called "Cat Feathers".

That's fine for the items, but the skills and feats aren't magical devices. Mostly they're mediocre jokes, but one of the feats lets you act as if one size larger for grappling purposes and damage dealt during grapples, which is pretty decent for a grapple feat. (And Handle Humanoid is kind of broken if a DM allows it, but you don't need to be catfolk for that anyway - most of us just call it diplomancy.)

A few more: (from http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/MagicItems.pdf ) Catspaws: +10 competance to move silently + unlimited free featherfall for 6.2k Falcon Cloak: 10,000 gp, polymorph into a falcon for 1 hour/day, divided as you please. +10 competence to spot Reflex weapon enhancement: +1 enhancement, gives combat reflexes From the cat special, the collar of perpetual attendance is unlimited unseen servant for only 2k. The "Don't Mind Me" feat would be interesting if someone adapted the Killer Gnome for, let say... a Tibbit...

To be fair, it opens up a whole slew of wonderful RP possibilities and makes taking a cat familiar much more appealing. I'd always wished they had done something like this to make the familiars more important to play beyond ubersquishy exp sponges.

Why don't druids have to suffer this BS?)... I disagree about familiars not being useful. You just need to be creative, and look at their abilities. It's like having a whole other set of actions you can take in a round. Especially with Share Spells, or if you take UMD ranks or something, they really can be quite powerful.

the most effective optimization is the one you can actually get away with. (A group of nerds are called a murder because like crows we are anti-social, like shiny things, and often squack at each other over nothing for hours) I often have to remind people not to underrate divination. The ability to effectively metagame without actually metagaming beats the ability to set things on fire more times than not.

You can still become fatigued while wearing Sandals of the Vagabond. They only make you immune to Exhaustion. Effects that would normally Exhaust you just fatigue you instead (or extends the time you remain fatigued if you are already).

Oh, I agree with you, I just haven't ever gotten to play in a high enough level game to really make use of share spells, UMD, etc, and I'm typically rather frightened to risk the Exp loss.
