Lorag studies the stalactite a while longer, then holds out his hand and focuses. A metallic orb slowly materialises in his hand. The moment it becomes fully solid, it fragments and shuffles its parts into a shape resembling a ladle. Lorag walks towards the river holding it - he seems to have forgotten Thraxis's request.

The river happily burbles and bubbles over the rocks, showing no signs of the creature that disturbed the waters minutes before.

Thraxis shakes his head, and follows Lorag to the river, to try and protect the forgetful gnome from anything that emerges from the water.

The water continues to sparkle with white flecks of foam passing by, bulging up as if reaching hungrily towards where the two heroes stand.

Lorag dips the "ladle" into the river and waits to see if anything happens. If not, he will withdraw some water from the river and scan it for auras.

The water sits gently in the ladle, but reads as truly blank to his aura, as if there was simply no magic at all within the flowing river.

The two already within the cavern could hear the clatter of a pebble clattering down the tunnel they entered by, followed by the sound of footsteps. A figure dimly lit by glowing lines along it's arms thumped onto the ground, having just walked down the walls, holding onto his hat.
"Lorag? That you over there? It's Ferrus."

Lorag does not react visibly to the new arrival. "What have you found?" he asks dispassionately.

Walking into the circle of light cast by Lorag's torch, "Nothing, yet. I came here as soon as I learned of your expedition, and my last specimen...expired. What about you? I see you haven't explored very far in the dig yet."

Lorag could better explain the magical effects, but you can see this odd bleeding sword for yourself. The large winged metalline dragon points at it, then quickly returns his grip to his readied weapon and his eyes to the water's surface.

Lorag hands the ladle to Ferrus, then points at the wall of the cavern. "There is some manner of strange illusory aura within that stalagmite. I have been unable to determine its origin. Now, if you will excuse me..."He bends down, places his palm on the surface of the river and calls "Bisdiver". Summoning an 1st-level astral construct with +5hp and a swim speed of 30ft, then sending it to search the riverbed. Current pp: 23/26

Ferrus takes the ladle without a word, but opts to observe the water first, fingering a quartz shard inset on the back of his hand as he does so.

As the construct dives into the water, it begins to shimmer and shudder, and then slowly fall apart, the astral energies draining from the creature's dissipating form. It is gone within only a matter of seconds from touching the water's surface.

"Water appears inimical to magical effects, confirming with energy discharge test."Ferrus tapped the crystal he was fiddling with, and fired a thin stream of frost from a fingertip with a tinkling discharge.

Ferrus gives Thraxis a considering look, followed by his own magic ring, but thought better of it, some things are too valuable to expend in a moment of curiosity. Holding the ladle, Ferrus examines it, "Lorag, is this a magical construct?"
