Noting the lack of severity of Canere's wound, Ira put her attention back onto the chests, prying them open in a similar manner, bracing for future splinters.

More scrolls tumble on the floor, brittle and cracked with age.

Ira's eyebrow perked up, curious as to what the abundance of scrolls were for. Picking up one of them, she began to read the contents of the scroll... that is, if she could manage it.

Few scrolls appear to be legible, for age has damaged them, but on the last. Ira picks and pokes through them, and finds nothing of value to her, but when she hands the papers over to Caden, he exclaims, for there are a few words written in the draconic tongue upon one of the documents. Translated back into the common tongue, they spoke of the dying magical power of the city of Ar Lawr Caer, presumably the city upon which they now stood. The final passage mentions a cryptic "last attempt" to save the city, but makes no mention of what that attempt would be.

Apparently a records room of some kind. Useful but not what we're after... Canere continues moving the chests ad crates he can lift to the top of the tower. I think I may want to go over these anyway, once we've finished exploring. Now that I know what they probably contain, I can afford to continue exploring once they've been moved upstairs. Once Canere moves the once he alone can lift, he enlists the other to help him carry the bigger ones.

Hoisting a large crate together with Canere, Caden slowly navigates the stairs. "I hope you'll be able to gleam somethin' out of all these papers, Canere. Telling us that there was some final attempt but not what it was... welll, it's like the gods are teasing us."

Aye, I do agree Caden. The first thing I want to do when we get these crates and chests in the same place is to have you scan them for any magical auras. It's possible someone hid a scroll of magical might among these mundane records.

Ira sighed, lugging up some of the heavier crates.
"Whatever magical scrolls you find, let's hope that they're useful. Or rather, still useful."

"True that. Well we'll see".He then goes down to pick up another crate, if there are any left. When all crates and boxes have been brought up and opened, Caden evokes his mystical insight to see if there is any magical properties on any of the texts.

Some texts glow with a faint blue aura, and those are preserved out of all measure with their brethren, still clean and crisp after centuries in an old chest. They are written in archaic and ancient draconic, difficult to read even for a trained speaker. It speaks of history, and opens with a note to the reader that this has been preserved specifically for him, as a record of the final days of the city.
The story begins years before, speaking of arguments and disagreements among the magician's guild, as they slowly felt their magic slipping, first, the dome that protected the floating city from inclement weather crumbling and disappearing, the protection eroding and being eaten away, as if some force was consuming the strength. That was that frightened the magicians most of all, that they felt as if a vampire had latched to their talent, siphoning the strength away as they daily battled to save their city and defeat whatever caught upon them. Yet years of scrying, of research, of searching had found nothing. Not even a hint of an enemy with that level of power. Oh, there were the petty disputes of politics and boundaries and resources, but nothing that would lead to a destruction of the civilization, and yet that was what this felt like, that Hania itself was being ground down into a dust, the strength and the vibrancy stolen out from their citizens.
Continuing on in a sad, yet predictable, pattern, the mage writes of the slow death of the city, as fragments break away and fall, as citizens unwilling to risk the heights depart to the ground, melding themselves into the populace below, losing their Hanian identity. Eventually, all that is left is the mage's guild and a small surrounding area, and even that will no longer fly in the near future. And so they head to the north, to a barren and desolate land, seeking to preserve what they have from idle treasure seekers and vainglorious heroes who would pilfer the ruins simply for cheap profit. Finding a place of appropriate squalor and empty space, the last mages set the city down, leaving behind all that they could preserve, with whatever they could do to protect it from all their fears. Each had slowly sacrificed themselves as their magic failed them, until only the author was left. And now he wrote these notes, marking them down in the hopes that one day the children of his civilization would recover, and restore what had been the city.
The pages finished, and were signed by Llawfrydedd

Reading it silently, Caden whistles as his sight travels down the text. "Well, we got something here alright, it's a nice start" He looks at his companions faces momentarily, then proceeds to read the text once more, this time out loud so he can share the last vestiges of written history with his friends. "...signed Llawfrydedd. Well, so there you have it. They tried very hard to keep it floating and maybe we'll find some other record of what they tried in depht somewhere in this place. I'm not to keen on this "magic vampire-theory" but it wouldn't suprise me"

Interesting, is all the response Canere is able to make at first. Then he speaks again in Celestial Thank you Llawfrydedd. Hoping Drancedigaeth will grant his voice leave to travel to the long dead philosopher. I'm going to begin researching these notes. I'm no scholar, but I intend to try my hardest to find out what happened to our ancestors and how to right the wrongs of so long ago.

Canere is studying the various tomes, scrolls, and volumes he's found so far. He works slowly and methodically, trying not to miss anything.

Ira paused. She pressed her back against one of the walls, pondering Caden's words, stunned. Then, when Canere began to dive into the scrolls, Ira's gaze sharpened.
"Caden, while Canere looks through the texts, would you like to come with me and scan the area? Your fire would probably be the only way we can move through all that snow. And if we run into trouble, I still have my blade."
She slapped the hilt of her blade.
"Maybe there are other clues beyond this tower."

"Gladly. I'm looking forward to explore the rest of this place, I'm sure we can find something interesting somewhere. Bet ya a silver piece we'll find something that'll help more than those documents Canere."
He checks his equipment and nods to Ira.
"So, let's check where that big room can take us, eyh?"
