I would say we should bury him, however... Canere gestures outside. That would be rather difficult. Caden, would you be willing to cremate this long dead ruler?

Caden lets out a small sigh, puts the ring into his pocket and then reaches for the dagger.

"Sure. As long as you do the talking."

He then begins once again his chanting for arcane insight.

Ok, so as I said. Identify on the ring, then on the dagger.

Ring is Cold Resistance 5/-, as well as an Endure Elements specially against cold.

Dagger is +1 Defending, and can cast Protection from Energy once per day.

"Well then, I've got 'em figured out. The ring grants some protection from cold, both normal or magic. Not much, but it helps. The dagger have some defensive enchantment on it, I think it's supposed to be used as a parrying dagger. The weight and magic is made so to be able to block stuff better. It also have some kind of spell to protect against types of energy. Like flame or lightning."
He holds up the ring "Anyone want it? I have a trick similar to it, so if I'm not around you'll like it." He looks down and studies the blade in his hand. "The dagger I like though, I'll keep it unless one of you want it."
He gazes upon the ancient rulers remains.
"And perhaps we should... well. Burning him in here will probably cause the tower to take fire and whilst I enjoy flames as much as the next guy in this weather, burning down our shelter ain't my kind of clever idea. So carry him outside is an idea."

Canere leans down and puts his hands under the man's armpits. I guess me and one of you will do for pallbearers. I'd like the ring Caden. If you don't mind, Ira.

Ira found herself smirking, moving to the ruler and lifting the man from his ankles, hidden amongst the tarnished blankets.

"Alright then, but don't blame me for tossing you in front to sponge up the icy breath of a certain beast."

She gave Canere a menacing stare, red eyes glowing, masked by a low smile.

Leading the way, Canere carries the man out the hole Ira originally made in the wall. As gently as possible, he lays the man next to their bridge of ice. Nodding to Caden, he begins reciting a Hanian dirge.

Ira followed suit, gently laying down the long deceased ruler. She took shelter again, to pick up any dropped pieces of the man and return them to the body as Canere began his recitation.

Taking a deep, controlled breath Caden exhales crimson flames in a steady jet, the bright flames catching on the dry husk of the ruler long dead. As his remains minge with the flames licking the air, Caden simply stands by, watching. As the last remnants of the flames whither and die out, the three friends standing there, he speaks. "Well, that'll be enough to please 'im." Turning around, he flashes a mischevious grin towards Ira and gouts a small jet of freezing air right over her face, lasting no more than two seconds. The sub-zero fumes showed no sign of affection her, except the rather obvious loook of suprise on her face. "Well then if you're gonna use Canere here as a sponge, I just thought it be good and proper for you to get a first taste."
He grins wildly, then rushes back in, trying to avoid the counterattack that would surely come his way for his little prank.

My invocation renders you immune to all my breath weapons, so I see no point in only using that to my advantage during combat. Wink

Perhaps if Ira were to have spent the next minute staring at the plume of smoke rise, a last testament to the ruler's existence, then maybe she would have simply walked back into the tower, bent on finding out what the bottom floor held. But of course, she instead found herself frantically brushing away the freezing air, which unfortunately did not reek of minty freshness. It may not have stinged her face, but she found herself draining the irritation and surprise from her face. Making long strides, she gave pursuit, eventually putting her hands on his shoulder and bending in close to deliver a few words of sweet poison.

"Come now Caden, the last beast had the most refreshing minty breath ever. It was quite chilling, really. Maybe I should stick you in front," she said, giving Caden a wink. "Who knows? You might really enjoy it."

She gave his back a light nudge forward, before turning to Canere, maintaining her cheery mood.

"Canere! Perhaps we should venture down and see what horrible breaths await us!"

I love how we're all interexchangeable in terms of tanking.

Still, once we can afford better stuff, I'm beelining to mythril fullplate and possibly even a tower shield, mechanics permitting. Still need to recall what items increase Max Dex bonuses for armor and shields...

Canere grins at the banter between his two friends.
Indeed, Ira. I shall lead the way, lest any beasties spring out and attempt to freeze us. However, I'd like to have a look through that trapdoor up top, first.
Canere makes his way to the stairway and moves upward.

The trapdoor is swollen and old, but a single hard shoulder bursts the door upwards, revealing the light of the sun, that cool whiteness of the north that lights but does not heat the land. The landscape all around glistens, miles upon miles of ice, with the only blemish upon the rolling surface being the footprints in the snow and the small smoking remains left by the heroes. It is a desolate place, made more so by the fact that they stand at the pinnacle of a grave, the frozen husk of a once living city.

Canere gazes into the distance, one hand up sheilding his eyes from the harsh brightness of the cold sun. After a moment, he turns and heads downward.
Let's see what else we can find in this tower. Stay behind me. If we get seperated for any reason, the room where we entered will function as a meeting place.

The tundra seemed to glisten with light, as if painted by a single swoop of the hand. She winced at the glare, surprised by the intense light. It was only when she realized that the tower she was standing on was but a single, solitary monument to civilization amongst the vast wilderness that her mind began to click. She absentmindedly listened to Canere, testing the possibility that they were truthfully alone. As they began to descend the sprial staircase behind Canere, she began to mouth to herself some of her thoughts. Winding slowly, she then addressed the other two, mood considerably different from before.

"Does it not make any sense that there is not a single other person on the face of this world who has attempted the same thing as we are? Would it be plausible that somewhere, somewhere, we could find allies who have done the same and have some sort of structure set up?"

Ira put her right hand in the air, pointing at some invisible sky amongst her thoughts.

"Think about it. Is the possibility that there does not already exist some sort of, oh, 'Hania Revival Group' truly zero? Maybe we should focus our efforts on the present."

Truding along behind Ira, Caden shares his oppinion with a decisive snort.
"Hmmrph. That might be all well and good, but as ye say we don't know. Fancy their faces when we comes flyin' with a island of our own when they're, well I don't know, thirty perhaps and had worked on it for decades. If they exist. If we ever find 'em.
Besides, this place is as good as any fer clues. But if ye have any ideas, out with them lass"

The time Caden spent with those dwarfs, you've noticed over the years, left quite a mark on his speech pattern. Slipping in and out of it, at the moment he sounds just like any other sturdy beard-bearer.
Though I wouldn't mind you beein' right, Ira. I really wouldn't.

"I know this is a good place to find some clues, especially of what doomed this city. Maybe it's the desolate nature of the place that has me frustrated."

A break of silence fell upon her.

"What about scholars? If I remember correctly, neither of you are actually from Hania. Is Hania a myth to the outside world now?"

I may not be a native Hanian, but I know little of the stories told outside it. I grew up in Hania from the time I was very young. Canere's gold eyes narrow, And before that, I wasn't really in a position to have stories told to me. As to whether we really should be here, never have I heard of anyone else doing what we are doing. But I suppose the chance of someone else having succeeded at what we are trying, the odds aren't zero. However, I'd like to have my own island, run by people I trust, rather than ones I barely know.
I have to surround myself with friends, otherwise I'll just end up like that ruler back there, or Ludo...

Descending downwards behind his two companions, Caden scratches his chin and passes his hand on the cold stone, his fingers following the lines between the stones. His gaze wanders as he's thinking out loud.
"Myth, I wouldn't say. Myths tend to be talked about. Hania isn't spoken about, not from the places I've been to at least. Any scholars with knowledge about Hania tends to allready live there. The others think we're remnants, left-overs and they're right, partially at least. The world is looking as it is and there's not many that have the luxury to think about some crumbling cilivization that's not their own."
Cadens' tone changes as he speaks, his voice becoming solemn.
Knocking his knuckle on the wall, he snorts.
"Hmmrph. How cheerful I sound, ehy?
Well, in time we'll restore it, we just need some magic floating mortar and some very resilient crops then we're basically done."

His voice now more cheerfull than just a few seconds ago.

As they descend down below the level of the room through which they first entered, small drifts of snow and ice begin to collect on the stairs downwards, making the footing treacherous and slippery. Still within what appears to be the tower proper, and not the base, they come to another room of old make, with a door once more blocking the way. The stairs continue down, and a quick glance around the spiral reveals that they open out into a great chamber. Once, perhaps, that was the main hall of the tower and this city, but now it appears to be scattered and broken, the remnants of a great civilization.
