Hi guys,

I think I've discovered a problem with some builds that use Initiate of Mystra and Divine Metamagic, such as the Cheater of Mystra or the Twice-Betrayer of Shar. Would someone who knows their stuff in relation to builds utilising these two feats be able to look over my logic below, and tell me if there's something I'm missing?

Initiate of Mystra allows you to '...cast spells within a dead magic zone or an antimagic field.' (PgtF 81.)

Divine Metamagic allows you to spend turn attempts to apply metamagic to spells you know, and is a divine feat.

As with turning or rebuking undead, '[a]ctivating a divine feat is also a supernatural ability...' (CD 77.)

Therefore, is it correct to state that an Initiate of Mystra cleric who had cast Antimagic Field over themselves would still be able to cast spells, subject to a caster level, but would not be able to use supernatural abilities? Further to this, is it therefore correct to state that builds that rely on Divine Metamagic (or any other divine feat), in combination with Antimagic Field, are invalid?

Some advice would be appreciated!

That seems to make sense, but they could just cast their persistent buffs and then put up the persistent AMF, because the effect of the DMM:P feat is instantaneous and comes into effect when the spell is cast, not afterward. This would mean, however, that the AMF would have to be down for a few rounds each day.

The problem with that is that when the AMF pops up, since you didn't cast your spells in it, they blink out... The feat lets you cast spells in an AMF, not let your pre-existing items/spells function in them...

AfterCrescent, that's what I was thinking, it means casting a Persistent Antimagic field becomes a more tactical decision, as it reduces your versatility relating to divine feats.

What exactly is stopping you from Extraordinary Spell Aiming your self out of said antimagic field?

Nothing. AMFs just don't block line of effect.

Selective spell works, though.

Not having the feat?
Seriously, though, nothing. That's the way to do it. Smile
