For four years I followed Warlord very closely. I played in the Worlds and National tournaments three years in a row. I never won, but I became pretty competitive and still have a love for the game.

Things that make it similar to DnD:
You use d20's for almost everything
There is AC
There is to-hit bonuses
There are skills
There are feats
There are spells
There is initiative
A lot of the flavor content closely resembles DnD
Many other things
Right now would be a perfect time for you to start playing it, too. Phoenix Interactive (Pheonix Inferno's company) recently bought the game from AEG (a down-grade, company-wise, but eh) and there has been a reset on the formats. The new tournament format consists of only two card sets. You could also just play with all the cards made, like type I MTG.
