So, here's my idea:
First, you think up a great character concept, like, I want to be a sneaky fighter dude who can blast with magic.
Then you figure out about how that character should be made up. Say, some Rogue, some Fighter and some Battle Sorcerer.
Then, you divide up the classes along 10 levels to represent the approximate proportions of the classes in the full character concept. So, 2 Rogue, 6 Fighter, 2 B.Sorcerer.
Then, for rest you need to randomize it by rolling two dice with sides equal to the number of levels you want in that class (so it averages out right). So 2d2 levels of Rogue, 2d6 levels of Fighter and 2d2 levels of B.Sorcerer. Say this gives 4, 8, 4. So now I've got a 26-level progression with 6 Rogue, 14 Fighter, 6 B.Sorcerer.
Now, and this is the part that makes it so cool, because my character doesn't understand what the mechanics of the system mean, I randomly choose from among the remaining levels what I take! So level 1 I have a 6/26 chance of taking Rogue 1, 14/26 of being Fighter 1 and 6/26 of being B.Sorcerer 1! So, like if at level 6 I turned out a Rogue 3/Fighter 3 when I take level 7 I have a 3/20 chance of taking another Rogue level, a 11/20 chance of taking a Fighter level and a 6/20 chance of finally learning to be a B.Sorcerer!
This is awesome because now it more realistically depicts how people really do things! They kind of think up a game plan for life but instead of just work it out and focus on it they let life randomly decide whether they get a chance to learn something or not. It make so much sense like that. It also prevent super-ultimate min/maxing because if you can't be sure what'll happen then you can't really do any better than anyone else. And it's full of flavor because you can't just choose to go straight until a min/max'd point in a class and then break out of it just like a character couldn't. I mean, it's not like you can just be a Monk until you learn to flurry better and then decide that now that you've attained this level of learning you want to branch out and get in touch with your Holy side.

Yes! Awesome!
Just to be sure, you're going to use the 1E ability score generation, right? 3d6, no rerolls, place in order? That represents organic people, just like in real life!
Should race be randomly generated? I guess you don't really have any control over that, either...

My balancing 3.5 compendiumElemental mage test gameQuotesIt is a shame stupidity isn't painful. Totally true. Historians believe that most past civilizations would have endured for centuries longer if they had successfully determined Batman's alignment. Why are so many posts on the board the equivalent of " Dear Dr. Crotch, I keep punching myself in the crotch, and my groin hurts... what should I do? How can I make my groin stop hurting?" I suggest carving "Don't be a dick" into him with a knife. A dull, rusty knife. A dull, rusty, bent, flaming knife. Fluffy: It's over Steve! I've got the high ground! Steve: You underestimate my power! Fluffy: Don't try it, Steve! Steve: *charges* Fluffy: *three critical strikes* Steve: **** I don't even stat out commoners. Commoner = corpse that just isn't a zombie. Yet. When I think "Old Testament Boots of Peace" I think of a paladin curb-stomping an orc and screaming "Your death brings peace to this land!" Buy a small country. Or Pelor. Both are good investments.

I think you should roll on a pregenerated table to determine your character idea too.

While you're at it, roll on a table to determine whether or not you get to be a character or whether you're a rock or a tree stump.

While you're at it, roll on a table to determine whether or not you get to be a character or whether you're a rock or a tree stump. And you roll 1d4 for that. 1 is rock, 2 is three stump, 3 is an orange, 4 is tentacle monster (LA due to Improved Schoolgirl Plundering feat).

Needless to say, if you want to be an apple, you have to buy the Expanded Edition, where you roll a d6!
5: Apple, 6: Human.

As long as you're required to flip a coin when confronted with a yes or no choice to determine your answer, it's all good. I mean, your character isn't you, so you don't know exactly what they'd do. Only fair way to do it is by chance.

FFFFFFFFffFFfffFFFFffFFFFFFFFFFF I know where you got that from and yes I downloaded it too. Also, you guys don't even have the splat that allows becoming a Tarrasque on a roll of 7. Don't have a d7? You'll need to buy one. Only WOTC sells them, officially, at the new low price of $35 USD. ZeroSum: As a cold and calculating individual I'm wholly against gambling for power. I like it crept up on me and fully assured, even if I must wait.

Just out of curiosity, at what point does this stop parodying and start just being silly for silliness's own sake? Doesn't matter a whit, but if/when we finally run out of ideas, we should repost the sillier parts on the humor thread. : )
As for the Tarrasque splat: Everyone knows that the d7 is too easy to confuse with the d9 from the splat that allows you to become a vampiric dragon on a 9. So we decided against using that splat.

Well, if you think we can come up with endless ideas, then I encourage you to prove me wrong! Because this is a thing I'd really, really hate to be right on.
::rolls a d13..::
Whew, I didn't die from a 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 event.
You know, the one you have to make every odd numbered minute of every odd numbered hour. Its in Tedium and Termites, which is intended to allow for getting an elf OR a dwarf! Player's choice!
...
If they roll above the IQ of the player, divided by the square root of Uma Thurman's bra size in meters.
Oh wait, wrong game. Damnit! So much for playing a dwarf!

Bra size as in circumference of chest? Cup size can't be measured in numbers.
Fucking math problems in D&D.
When does the Uma Errata come out when they define it in inches? I heard it's due in November.

Right. Though some people have apparently used the house rule that use cup size as follows with A = 1, B = .5, C = .25, etc...
And yeah, stupid math. What do they think this is, GURPS?
I think the Errata is coming out in November. At the very latest, December.
