CHAPTER 1 -- Ever Get That Sinking Feeling...?

Talman's charge is preempted halfway through by the dematerialization of the creature he was headed for.  He slows to a walk, and moves forward to the others.  Nice work!  These things seem a lot calmer now.  The tremor in his voice is still detectable to the trained ear, but he is considerably more integrated.

What do you think they want?  Maybe they're just curious?  Didn't expect that to happen?

Elia looks down on her dagger and gauntlet, frowning. She'd almost expect to see traces of ectoplasm left on them, but of course there isn't any.
"I really don't know. After all, that whip-wielding horror was born from the remnants of their energies. Do they want me to 'liberate' them like this ? Are they just the spirit-world equivalent of moths, drawn to our life energy and repulsed by that of the other creature ?  None of it makes sense."

She tentatively extends her gauntleted hand towards and then (if there is no reaction) through one of the wraiths.

The spirits swarm about the team, and hen Elia passes her hand through one of the creatures, it is cold.  The temperature drops for everyone as the shadowy phantoms dart about the entrance to the chamber.
