I first joined Eworld a few months ago when the whole Gleemax fiasco started to rear its ugly head, and disgusted with the entire spate of events, started looking for another forum to while away my waking hours at. That was when I thought I would try Enworld.

I am not sure if it was because I had spent too much time at gleemax (close to 5 years, now that I think about it) and become too used to the CO board style of replying, that I found myself in for a rather rude culture shock. As mentioned in another thread, pointing out that another poster's point is pretty much a houserule will get you slapped with a warning. Optimization is apparently some sort of taboo, and uttered with the same disdain normally reserved for munchkins.

If you so much as query over a possible abuse of a certain ability by citing RAW, they will start descending on you like a horde of avenging angels and admonishing you for even thinking of trying to abuse the rules. RAI gets thrown around like nobody's business, and is used frequently to justify any reply. Example - "It is clear that the designer's intent was XXX, so from a RAI perspective, we ought to do YYY", and expecting us to just take it at face value without questioning the veracity of their statements.

No joking, it is like the anti-thesis of the BG forums...

Still, it is interesting enough that I still pop back from time to time.

So what about the rest of you? What are your thoughts and opinions about Enworld?  Big Grin

I heard Giant in the Playground is worse.  Also, you'll find that most of Wizards of the Coast's forums are more like ENWorld/GitP than Old-339 or say...The Gaming Den.

I was at ENWorld long before I was at WotC. One thing really sums up my thoughts about the place: "They have a retarded, egoistic New Zealander as a moderator."

That is all I will say of the 1st Forum of Fail.

Don't hate me for just pointing out the obvious.

You're all the same people. I see the same threads by the same people, some with the same exact titles. Folks that post on the WotC boards post on EN world and over here.

That's why I laugh whenever someone says "I hate so and so community...."

Giant in the Playground isn't THAT bad. Their biggest sore point is any outright namecalling. The place could stand to loosen up in some respects, but overall it's probably my preferred place on the internet at the moment.

Dude. You really need to get on a plane and leave Godzone to the people who like it there.

I actually don't mind the EN world forums.  Or rather I like them.

If you want to talk about d20 with other people obsessively interested in d20 not controlled by WotC: EN World.

It is what it is.  Don't expect open mindedness, don't expect people who know game design or can intelligently converse on any other topic.

Eh, perhaps.  All I know is one time I got gang-flamed by people because I dared to suggest that a mafia safehouse would have someone with Sense Motive as a class skill guarding the door.  According to them, the weakest person should be guarding the door while all the strongest people were in the secret meeting.  Yeah...

ENWorld is fucking hilarious.  It's like watching a bunch of children play with dog feces.  You want to come in and point out that feces don't make a good toy, but you know they'll throw a tantrum at you.

(Yes, I got banned.  Planesailing broke the own rules of his forum to ban me.  It was...something.)

Ugh, EnWorld.

I have an account there. Its main purpose is giving me another place to show my homebrew. With the quantity of replies they got, I pretty much abandoned these boards.

Now, with 4th Ed, the climate is even worse. Fanboyism has grown so much, it hurts me to think about it.

I'll give you that, Josh: At least the material used in conversation is a lot expanded.

Quoted For Truth
vs.
Quoted For Truthyness
{ ... uh oh, aDMg being weird again ... }

(explaining)
Post-modernism suggests (perhaps) that their truth,
is at least, but no more important, as your truth.
Therefore ...
Why did D&D publish their rules?
So someone can have something to bitch about.
{ ... oops, there I go defining anything at all again ... }
  ... "I thought the books were proto-methanol."

So true.
However I was on ENWorld back in 2002, same time I dabbled in Sean K. Reynold's forum and eventually WOTC (probably my longest membership) and I can confidently say that ENWorld really does attract some dregs of the gaming continuum.
It always has. Probably always will.
Better advertising tends to do that.

So far in the last decade my path has been ENWorld -> SKR -> Monty Cook -> WOTC -> Gaming Den -> Nifty -> here

Well, Nifty was more of a slight detour. Not much game related conversation going on.

You should have seen it back in the day.  At one point, it was pretty cool.  It's a little slow nowadays though.
