Backstory Hi. I`m Meriabo. For now... I`ve been working as a low-profile spy, dungeoncrawl & ingeneer for hire for the past 15 years. Mostly low-scale jobs that never attracted too much attention. Although once in a while I would get hired in for something big (Quite rare, really, seeing as I can be hard to find). Granted, I botched a few jobs, got stabbed in the back a time or two, and caused some uneccesary mayhem a few times as well. But no matter. I would just move on with a new cover, and everything was alright again. At least for me. Aaahh the good o`l days. Thats all behind me now, see? I screwed up. And this time, it might just stick.
See, my bad luck started when I agreed to... Aaah... Pick up a few things in a small-time House Kundarak vault. Yeah. Thats what it was. Pick up a few things. Nothing illegal, course. Long story short, I did my part, and as payment was left for dead after I delivered the merchandise. So, there I was. Both a Dragonmarked house AND the guy who hired me (And I have no idea who that is, but it seems he would rather kill me than let the dwarves find out it wasnt my idea to visit there vault.) looking for me. I was in the deepest shit of my life. At the time, at least.
See, thats when the real trouble started. All my gear was stolen, I had 2 huge bounty`s on my head, and nowhere to go. I was desperate. And scared shitless that one of the bountyhunters\assasins looking for me would track me down, defenseless as I was. On the morning of the 7th day, just when my nerves was about to crack, I was approached by someone putting together a team for a stealthy assassin job. Now, you have to understand. Murder is dirty work. Its an evil thing to do. I never murdered anyone in cold blood. And I never thought I would. But I was desperate. And the guy offered to have all my gear replaced, even my 2 legacy kukri, who apparently had already hit the open market. He would make my troubles with house Kundarak go away, and gave me a lead to track down the people who botched me up after the bank job as a sign of good faith. So, I accepted. Didnt have much choice, really. It was me or this Moradin fellow. I got my stuff, did the job, the bounty`s put out by Kundarak went away (I hear they are still looking for me though), and I even stole a giant egg from this Mordain`s compound. The thing hatched in my backpack a few days later. Sherman was born. Life was good. I even met this strange beast called Elia, who it seems has some kind of history with the guy I helped finish off. Naturally, she doesnt know anything about that. I told her that I was a lonely wanderer. She didnt belive me. Sharp senses on that one. Then, I started hearing rumours about this Mordain being alive and well. And thats when I got *really* scared.
Well, when Fil helps me work out my attacks, I`m ready to start. I think.

In case it isn't obvious:
WE HAVE STARTED!
Everyone's in with a grin except Avalon.
Avalon, we started without you because it's been a week since you have posted. I know you got stuff on your plate, so let us know if/when you are going to be back, and what kind of a schedule you will have. If you can be consistent, then we'll get Maraxus back to the team asap (they are currently looking for you anyway.)
If you don't think you can contribute, then just let us know, and we'll start adapting.

Yay ! We never quite decided how Owain had come back so here's what I went for: Elia believes Mordain had a hand in it - in part because Owain and her have similarities (perhaps in part due to some heretofore unmentioned clues ?) - but she could be wrong. She doesn't really intend to bring it up herself.

I really enjoy cohorts familiars etc. They are a way for me to interact with the group consistently, and I use them often. Yeah, Sherman is smart and can talk regularlike, but I also like accents and flavor. As such, I am taking artistic license and decided he can only pronounce vowels "ah" and "uh"... so o's and u's become "uh" and i's a's and e's become "ah". He also growls on r's. I think it would be smart for him to just have a bullseye lantern to hang beneath his jaw by a ring between a set of teeth, but for the sake of drama, I'm setting a time limit to his light sources. you all may just cast a light spell if you have one, but I am assuming he lost his permalantern somewhere along the way during the past 20 hours. (taking stuff is something I decidedly DON'T do, but since it's not in his listed gear, something logical like that would have to be "removed" some how... this was an easy, fun fix.) I"m sorely tempted to have him somke cigars too... there was a book by Jack L Chalker where a miniature T-Rex smoked cigars. One of the Well World books. Fantastic sci fi with a bit of kink in it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Return_of_Nathan_Brazilanywho. I rolled for Merry and pulled a 1. Not shocking, considering I had been focusing on rolling a 1 for this trap since mapping out this chapter. I'm not much of a trap guy, so when I use one, I generally have a reason for it. aside from being a minor challenge worth some xp, it certainly made a LOT of noise, eh?

I dropped the ball on sherman's vision. D'oh.
I was being flavorful and attempting to build tension with a limited light source, but yo are all uber. *sigh*
and I am very aware of mindsight. it's a major plot tool of mine. you'll get lots of mileage out of it. I've referred to it twice so far already if you read carefully.

Well, the light source does allow people with low-light vision/superior LLV to see farther than the usual 60ft of Darkvision. At the cost of being detectable of course.

Alis: Re Sherman, I"m basically using lolspeak from www.Icanhascheezeburger.com , but I'm tacking on extra "r"s whenever used. I kinda have an accent fetish. The thing is, sherman is a dinosaur, so he has very limited mouth movement.. he's gonna sound real stiff when trying to people-talk. try saying what sherman would before typing. it's an interesting exercise. if it gets too unbearable, we can drop it, but I think something will evolve on it's own eventually.

double post.. yet again!
Just a word to the wise; I'm having a lot of fun fucking around with what your personalities might be. You may enjoy how I'm envisioning you, or not. I'm attempting to generate quirks and oddities about each of you to start adding depth to the narration. The more we can establish how you all may mesh with and grind against each other, the more fun it'll be posting in character as a story. <rant>that is really the best thing about PbP, IMO... it's so easy to narrate all the little things that just can't come across in RL table gaming. these things thrive in text environments.</rant> I'm gonna keep doing this and developing the characters until YOUR posting outweighs mine, and I understand how you want them portrayed; I will then further extrapolate quirks and subtleties based off what you give me. So more interaction and activity is better!
This is also open to discussion.
on an unrelated note: If Avalon could drop by and say "hi" that would be nice. Otherwise I"ll have to continue assuming we are a four man team for now. If I don't get some feedback by next chapter, Avalon will likely be replaced. Not my desired solution.

Is "whirl around herself" the correct expression ?? I'm unsure what preposition to use.
I stated it before: I intend Elia to be candid. But it is very possible that I'll slip and end up with something else since it's not natural at all to me.

Just FYI - I'm moving house on Saturday. So when not working I'm sorting/packing atm.
Shouldn't really interrupt posting rates since the place I'm moving to has a connection set up already, but finding time to design a legacy item is unlikely until next week.

thanks for the update!
Hmmm.... at this point folks should have had two rituals completed (if so desired) for their legacies... Folks go ahead and tell me what those rituals included so we can integrate that into your backgrounds, and I"ll make up the last one for those that are winging their items.
I'd also like to have an idea of what each of you did each level to get to where you are. I call that "faction". I'll get a post up about that soon enough. (did I already do that?)

Nope, you didn't. I saw a bit of that in the other wiki but right now I'm mostly confused about it.
The rituals I'd actually be interested to RP in a separate thread at some point. Probably with the current Elia since it would be too much work to downgrade her so there would still be some winging. One of them would probably the same as one of Umbral Awn's (the Shadow Hand weapon) ritual, the other I need to think about.

Sorry about the delays; I've been unexpectedly busy the past few days. I think I'll get the chance to update Talman later today, do prepared spells and such, and then actually be done with the mechanics .
