Also, Matthew W. Stover's Acts of Caine novels - Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle. One part semi-cyberpunk dystopia, one part a rather brutal (careful, it's violent!) if rollicking high fantasy 'adventure', all told through a variety of perspectives, dominantly that of a wiry and wily, sarcastic rogue/assassin. With a bit of politics and philosophy mixed in (especially Blade), but he tends to weave it fairly well. Very well written, well-developed, with good character growth, it's a rather good series. And the third stand-alone novel should be out in '08!
HD is my single favourite book.  I've not had the chance to read Blade of Tyshalle, some bastard stole it from the library but one day I'll have money again and just buy it.

Finally, I saw someone post some love for MC Lars. On the nerdcore front, then, I'd reccomend a few more people not much known outside their niche (for their music, at least), worth looking into - mc chris, MC Frontalot, and ytcracker. Nerdcore = <3

Is this where I start quoting Goth Girls, or Fett's 'Vette?  Or just point out both of those are on my phone? Heh

As for Elfen Lied, watching that show was an odd experience (the main character has split personalities, one sickeningly cute and the other a psychopathic mass murderer).

That's not usual? Oh...

My impression of the show, based on the first episode:

"Violence boobies BLOOD BLOOD violence nyo~ nyo~ boobies nyo~ DAWW CUTE ... BLOODY VIIIIOOLENCE ... nyo~~ boobies nyo~ nyo~"

Ooooh, yes, yes you must. It's in many ways so much better than Heroes Die. It's not a direct sequel, but since it's set seven years after, it references so much history, which a lot of is in that book...

Actually, I read Blade first, not realizing it came second, so by the time I found out and read Heroes Die, I knew how it was gonna end - yet it was still amazing enough seeing how it GOT there, and 'directly' how it played out.

Anyway. Blade of Tyshalle = awesome in oh so many many ways.

I've heard a couple times rumors of an Overworld RPG in the works, which always makes my dice feel a bit funny.

Ooh, an Overworld RPG could be very cool.  Maybe I could finally acquire Deofad's Luthen rather than just trying to emulate it now and then.  I always liked the idea of a magic sword that burned so hot it ignored armor bonuses by simply melting the steel into liquid without even slowing down  Lamorak's Kossal was pretty sweet as well, and those griffinstones had a ton of potential.

Plus the setting itself was great, gritty and dirty and highly fantastic at the same time.

How about Cave Story. 'Tis a free platformer/shooter with rpg elements made entirely from scratch by one person. I mean made entirely from scratch, music, graphics, and coding). My avatar is the dialog portrait of Balrog, a recurring boss in that game.

I HEART that game so hard. Greater than FOUR.

... even if I still haven't beaten Hell. I can get TO the boss, but then he destroys me. Every time. Gyaaah.

When I've got my Doctor costume on next weekend (yes, I cosplay The Doctor) I'll have to grab some pics for the "what do you look like?" thread. Smile

webcomics: Namir Deiter, Spare Parts, and You Say It First (and precursor, though the precursor isn't as good), all by Isabel and Terrance Marks, varying story lines, including one about gamers, one about vaudevillian actors, and one about a girl growing up (started '98 with her in high school, she's aged a year every year since then)
Marry Me (absolutely hilarious romantic comedy)
Two-Kinds (I was astonished to see the homebrew races in both the WotC and GitP boards)
Garanos
White Noise and Magic High
Alien Dice and all that Tiffany Ross does
Fur Will Fly and its spin off, I almost stopped reading it due to poor artwork and slow story line, and few laughs, but right before I was going to quite it picked up and became well worth the read.
And Avalon, at least until it ended.  Worst.  Ending.  Ever.

I'm not really sure about anything else, all the movies/shows I've seen are fairly well known.  And heck, some of the webcomics are probably known by a few here.

I can get to the second form. By then, I'm hurting and almost regretting not getting the Nemesis. And then wham, dead. Stupid Angels, always the things that do the most damage. >.<

Nope Smile Cool game nonetheless... no dice, tons of strategy - something like Dungeon-style Chess. Can only recommend it (2 players only, there's a 3-4 players add-on available, did not test it, though) - http://www.dungeontwister.com/

I have, on an emulator (naturally).  Good times.

Anyway, a band called Agalloch would be my first selection of "Things [I ] like that no-one ever heard of".  Also, Dark Forces 1.  Of course, that all depends on your circle.

Anyone here ever played an old Sega Genesis game called Warsong?

There was a whole series of them in Japan, but for those of us that can't read Japanese this was a tiny window into a series full of awesome.  I'd call it *the* most enjoyable turn-based strategy game I've ever played.

Ooh!  I remembered a TV show that no one's heard of!  Paranoia Agent.  It's really weird.  And good.  You should all watch it.

And I lied about Avalon having the worst ending ever.  Myself; Yourself has the worst ending ever.  It closes only half of the plot threads, and opens up twice as many more.  Though it does get props for actually surprising me in a couple spots.  Either I wasn't paying attention or they did a good job of misdirection and surprise.
