"Guards being called"

The raven was once again seen dipping it's head under the hat's brim. The news didn't really concern him, he had done nothing wrong...yet. After all he was here on legitimate buisness, The Duke being in need of adventurers. But still, You'd think that, that damn kobold and it's friends would take greater care in not drawing attention to themselves. His eyes narrowing slightly as they once again passed over them briefly.

"Another ale and some of the wonderful smelling venison please!" He'd say cheerfully to a passing barmaid, offering the young woman a warm smile.

As he was dragged aside, Brone couldn't help but give a little chuckle under his breath. "That's good," he begins, "since I am quite a sinner. And an evil one, oh yes, I once..." He trailed off as he strained to hear the innkeep as he passed. By the time he was spun around by the large man, he was on alert, though damned if anyone could tell by looking at him. He listened to what the man said, then stuck out his hand. "Brone, I'm a sellsword. This bastard would try to get us arrested, claim public disturbance and collect our money as compensation. Looks like we'll have to wait to discuss what this scarlet lady can do for me.

Note that pulling the innkeeper aside will only make us more arrestable. Trust me, I've been arrested enough times. My plan would be to cuddle up to him or skip out."

Beorn's eyes turn to the man Mialgru indicated. In draconic: That's no elf, it's....something else. Peculiar indeed . He then gestures toward one of the barmaids Some ham and cheese, and a pint of ale if you please! then continues to his friends(in common) Thanks for the fish, but I'd rather have something cooked while I have the chance. If I had to eat one more helping of bread crumbs and salted meat I would have killed somebody. I'm sure it will come in handy later.

Beorn leans back on his chair, trying to relax while he waits for his food and listens to what Mialgru has to say about the town, but he still keeps an eye on the rest of the bar. So all the whispering between the barkeep and the leaving patrons does not escape him. He shakes his head at his friends proposal of not using draconic anymore: (in draconic): Too late for that now. The barkeep has already sent for the guards. Thinks we're invading or something.

Mizar snaps out of little world as the word "guards" gets out of Beorn's mouth. His eyes, that had been fixed on the ceiling until that moment, get back to his friends, then they shift from the barkeep to the other travelers at an alarming speed.

In Draconic: You're kidding right? Guards? Invading? Why would that guy call the guards on us? We didn't do anything wrong!

Then gritting his draconic teeth, angry with this injustice, turns to his brother and, still in Draconic, says: I think it's best you go to the bathroom and get back here as something different, so they won't be able to link you with us. Me, Kal and Beorn will stay here, cool as ice. I'm sure there's been a misunderstanding and running away sure wouldn't help our cause.

As he finishes speaking to his friends, his skinny fingers reach for the belt pouch, opening it and taking out an oil flask. He then puts it on the table, tightening its grip around it. I'd rather not fight but...

And as his mind races to every possibility of escape the place might offer, he starts really observing the surroundings for the first time, paying extra attention to the other armed travelers.

Beorn tries a reassuring smile(in draconic) I don't think we need to worry too much. Duke Martin who runs this place is a a pretty reasonable man from what I've heard so I'm sure he'd have more common sense than a simple barkeep and wouldn't have strangers arrested on sight. It's bad for trade, and that's what these people live of. Still better to be safe than sorry, so we might as well be ready to fight or flee if needed. Looks like others are doing the same, don't look now, but the gnome over there has been loading a crossbow under the table for the past minute or so. You think we should fill Kal in on this?

1d20+4=17 Perception to see Bobbynock loading the crossbow
1d20+7=20, 1d20+10=18, 1d20+7=17 Knowledge (nobility&royalty) about Duke Martin, Streetwise(knowledge(local)) about how strangers are treated here and Knowledge (history) to see if I know anything about what invasion might the barkeep be referring to. Have these people been invaded recently?

Beorn
You have noticed that the villagers are suspicious of really strange outsiders.  They are used to Quegan folk, some Keshians, and even elves and dwarves on occasion, but anything beyond that is extremely rare and warrants attention.  Duke Martin has a lot more experience than the rest of the populace, which keeps him more reasonable.  The Kingdom was invaded recently by a people through a giant rift.  The Riftwar just ended within that last year, so the people are still on edge as the keep of Crydee was under siege for a large part of that war.

Fifteen minutes after some of you heard the innkeeper speak a breastplate armored guard flanked by two men in studded leather steps into the Inn.  They all have as symbol on their armor, and clearly look like members of the dukes guard.  He glances around his eyes taking in the different folk.  His grace would like to invite you to speak with him, and would be grateful if you would come quietly, the guard says in a voice that is used to being obeyed, nodding his head at all those he doesn't recognize as members of the town, or regular merchants to the town.

DC 10 perception
He clearly has a larger contingent of guards outside the door.

Beorn rises from the table. Of course. We wouldn't dream to refuse an invitation from his grace, right? he speaks awaiting his friends' answers.

It's up to  Mixster if he wants to have his char change shape again before the guards arrive as advised by his brother. If so, I'm only addressing Mizar and Kal

Jax goes about sipping his exquisite beverage with a general unconcern.  Mikkel and his companions are carrying on in some strange tongue but that is none of Jax's concern.  Nor was the man it red's pulling aside of the boisterous fellow.  No, Jax sat quietly and content savouring his drink and amusing himself watching the bobbing bird standing on the little man with the big hat.

Well, until that calm was ruined by the entrance of the guard at any rate.  Seeing that he was indicated along with the others and not wanting to have any avoidable trouble Jax finishes his drink with a big couple swallows and with practiced grace pulls on his pack and gathers his bow.

Back in Krisxanthrik refusing a call from a lord or lady of the court would cause trouble for even one of his order.  Jax greatly doubted it would be any less so in this land, particularly for a stranger.

"Well", he says turning to the guard.  "Let's be about this then."

Taking note of the stone dwarf and what it said Jax admitted to himself that it was one of the more strange things or creatures he'd seen in this land.  Indeed, thing or creature he asked himself as he moved to follow the guards.

@ flay:
woops,I assumed it was a combat intro. As much as I feel I/we should RP out what we started, our good DM has plans.
before the guards get here @ Cace A sellsword is simply a man who has found no liege. There is no greater liege the the lady of death and magic. Let us avoid any confrontation with the good inkeeper for I fear my talents are only for death and magic.
Arthur and Cace had sliped out the back. Arthur flips his crimon tunic inside out to reveal a brown cover. Then they follow the guards that are escorting the others to the duke.

untrained stealth (1d20=3) Fail I expect a guard will see at least me and then call me out or somthing.

The venison and ale were brought in short order, handing the barmaid the proper coin with a "Thank you!"

The raven was seen hopping down off the hat's top to stand beside the plate where it would share the gnome's meal.

The venison was mostly finished by the time the guards arrived, he downed the last of his ale before sliding out of his corner booth. The Raven retaking it's perch upon the top of his hat while he shifted his gear around, crossbow was slid back to it's normal position while the bolt was put back in it's case upon his belt.

"Splendid! I had heard his grace was in need of adventurers!"

His eyes kept on the kobold party as he moved to take his place near the guards, standing where they designated.

As the red priest walked away, Brone couldn't help but smile at him. He didn't share his views, but the man was entertaining enough. "No magic, but I've got death by the sheathe full..." Brone chuckled lightly to himself, as he slunk his cloak onto his shoulders as he exited the tavern. The small bow tucked into the cloak tapped lightly against his armor, but he made no sudden move, simply coming to a halt near the red priest, keeping a smile and eyes on the nearest guard in a slightly unnerving way.

Before the guards came, Mikkel and Kalal had slipped outside, and Mialgru turned into an Ibis, who hid in Kalals backpack.
If anybody sees the ibis, it has a belt with a vial of ink strapped to it, and a couple of pieces of paper strapped to it's back, but apart from that it looks like a normal Ibis. He told Mizar of his plans to do this prior in Draconic, and then spoke dwarven with Kalal, although his dwarven is a bit rusty, he's convinced Kalal that it is in fact the way dwarven is spoken nowadays, and that Kalal is the one who needs to brush up on his dwarven.

Taking 10 on all the tests, so his Hide is 27, and his perception is 22. He heard that the guards were being called/spoiler]

The guards, a patrol sized contingent form up in a square formation around you and begin the march to the keep.  The sun is just beginning to set in the west as you reach the keep, and you are led inside.  Heavy work on repairs is still occurring from damages that were sustained during the Riftwar, and you see a ramshackle camp of workers set up nearby just before entering.  You are led through a barbican and eventually into a great hall.  Great tapestries depict early battles against Keshians, and also other people that appear elven.  A great table is set, and sitting quietly at the head is a tall and broad shouldered man.  He wears mostly a workman's attire, and appears deep in concentration as you enter.  To his left stands a man with a long oaken staff, and a crumpled mouse colored hat and robes.

DC 10 Perception
The man in robes lips are moving

DC 15 Perception
The man sitting at the table is conversing in whispers with the man in robes, and staring intently at the group as you enter.

DC 20 Perception
The man sitting at the table, though a workman like attire is wearing very fine clothing.

DC 30 Perception
The man in robes whispers, "I will detect any lies that they tell, and alert you with the signalling device."

The guard captain steps to the side as he enters to allow a view of each of you and announces, "Your grace, I present the individuals you asked us to invite to dinner."

Thank you captain.  If you would seat them near this end of the table we may begin our meal.

The captain guides you to seats near the duke's end of the table, and asks that you be seated.  After that business has been attended, he is dismissed by the duke to attend his other duties.

Just after the guard captain leaves, the Duke speaks, "I admit I am unsure of your motives, or even who you are, but should you answer my questions with truth I may have a job to offer you.  But first, an introduction, I am Duke Martin of Crydee, brother to Prince Arutha of Krondor and King Lyam at Rillanon.  Who might each of you be?"

The small Ibis climbs up from Kals back and looks around the room. First at the other individuals who were called there. But then at the leader. Why a bird like that has an ink vial strapped to itself seems rather silly, especially because it seems it can open it with it's own beak, and why it clutches a pen seems even weirder.

Brone's sharp eyes breeze over the men, taking in everything with clarity. Surprised that noone was stepping forward with alacrity, Brone decided to take it upon himself to start. He stepped quick and massively forward, grace and danger abundant, before taking half a step back into a theatrical bow. "Your Grace! My name is Cace Brone, and I employ myself as a sellsword after training in the Free Cities of Bordon, Magrave's Port, and Port Natal. For chance of a good job, I'll answer whatever questions you like."

The Whisper Gnome's midnight blue eyes wandered about the castle as they all were led in by the guards until they eventually found themselves in the great hall. His eyes falling upon the two men whispering an inaudible conversation. The Raven is seen hopping to Bobbynock's left shoulder, sticking the very tip of it's beak into the gnome's ear, a hand moving up to brush it away and offering it a pat on the head before tapping the top of his hat, the Raven promptly retaking it's eariler perch.

The gnome climbs up onto the offered chair, the raven moving atop the chair's back headrest. The gnome bowing to the Duke.

"Thank you for the invitation and opportunity your Grace! I am Bobbynock Knackle, a practitioner of the Arcane Arts! And my friend here is Shadow Wing" He thumb points to the raven as he finishes the sentence.

Beorn greets to duke respectfullyThank you for your invitation, my lord. My name is Beorn Silvercloud and these are my friends Kalal al'Khazhad and Mizar. We're mere travelers from the south, that made port in your city after an ill-fated sea journey. Depending on what your highness needs doing, we might be able to help
