It is no secret I love Cthulhu.  So this is a thread to talk about all that Cthonic stuff.

So what games feature Cthulhu and Pals?

Obviously "Call of Cthulhu" An game that certainly shows its age, but this game raised a huge number of gamers.
http://www.chaosium.com/

The "new" CoC is "Trail of Cthulhu"
http://www.dyingearth.com/gumshoe/trail.html

In other CoC news, there is a new CoC publisher for True20
http://www.flamesrising.com/rdp-true20-cthulhu/

Then we have an independent RPG Cthulhutech (see our review)
http://www.cthulhutech.com/

And we flip things around and you play the cultists in "Acts of Evil"
http://www.halfmeme.com/evil.html
The game is discussed here

Don't encourage him folks.  Josh is just using this as an excuse to talk about CoC's.

I do love Lovecraft's tales.  The closest I've ever been to Cthulhu gaming is Arkham Horror, the Fantasy Flight Games production.  It was a lot of fun, though one of my friends describes it (rather accurately) as being lined up for a 300lb linebacker to kick you in the nuts repeatedly.

Munchkin from Steve JAckson also has a Cthulhu version of the game.  The 3rd e xpansion features the Unspeakable Vault (of doom) webcomic.

I must confess I never read any Lovecraft, but I certainly intend to do so once I get some more free time, pro'ly around the holiday season.
Any suggestions on great books I should definitely read or what's the best Lovecraft novel to start with (wether it involves Cthulhu or any of the other Elder Gods or their cultists)?

I am quite fond of the Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath, but it's not actually a Cthulhu story.

For non-H.P. Cthulhu, Brian Lumley's The Burrowers Beneath is a good read.

Nestled in that first pile of links bhu provided is at least one to an online collection of his works. So if you don't mind reading from a screen instead of paper, you could check them out there.

My favorite specific stories are:

"Pickman's Model" - Don't give this one away here.

And

"Shadow Over Innsmouth" - again don't give it away

Now I need to start a spoiler thread about Cthulhu.

I haven't read any of the books, but I've played the RPG once and the card game a few times.

It was in fact my first RPG ever.

Ah, the poor blind, deaf, sense-deprived donkey that pulled our wagon. (how else could you have something that _didn't_ freak out the minute anything tentacle-ish appeared?).
And the copkiller and the P.I in the same team.
The 10 kilograms of dynamite that the latter thought was a good idea to pack onto the afformentioned wagon.
And the explosion that the former caused when he discovered it.
Gotta love the fact that the murderer was the only one not freaked out by the deep one, since he rolled like a god and his in-char. explanation was that he was so un-educated he thought things like that obviously existed.

Ah, fun times.

Great Reads!
Between lovecraft and robert howard they pretty much helped define fantasy for me. Imagine my surprise when I realized J.R.R. did it for everyone else.
