Encounter 9 v2Setup:After fighting the wolves, you continue thorugh the woods, and eventually make it to a swamy area. The stale smell of smoke alerts you to the potential presence of others, so you become alert. As you near a bog, you notice several figures standing on the other side. You clearly see an ogre, and near him are three orcs and one very mean looking dog. Two of the orcs are wearing a spiked chain shirt and animal furs. They are each carrying a guisarme and some javelins. The third orc is wearing leather armor and furs and is carrying a spear decorated with feathers and bird skulls. The dog is standing right next to him, and is wearing leather barding. Notes:- You are still down HP and spell slots as noted before.
- The orcs designated 1 and 2 are the ones with guisarmes. The orc desiganated 3 has the spear and is standing by the dog.
- The water is relatively shallow and counts as rough terrain.
- The mud is just slick and requires a Balance check (DC 10) to cross if moving at faster than normal speed. If moving normal speed, there is no check needed. Failure by five or more makes you fall.
Initiative rolls:Modified Initiative:MapRound 1!Aepa! You're up!

My balancing 3.5 compendiumElemental mage test gameQuotesIt is a shame stupidity isn't painful. Totally true. Why are so many posts on the board the equivalent of " Dear Dr. Crotch, I keep punching myself in the crotch, and my groin hurts... what should I do? How can I make my groin stop hurting?" I suggest carving "Don't be a dick" into him with a knife. A dull, rusty knife. A dull, rusty, bent, flaming knife. Fluffy: It's over Steve! I've got the high ground! Steve: You underestimate my power! Fluffy: Don't try it, Steve! Steve: *charges* Fluffy: *three critical strikes* Steve: **** I don't even stat out commoners. (Serias, did you mean to put an Ice Patch in an empty area?)
Thorden's bolt misses the orc, but barely.
Seemingly following orc 3's orders, the dog moves to N 3, near the tree.

Grizz moves to P18 and holds a defensive stance; coincidentally, the Iron Guard's Glare Stance.

Orc 2 double moves to BB 12, drawing out a javelin on the way. He ends next to the tree. Orc 3 moves to M 3, next to the tree and casts a spell. Suddenly, the plants all around you begin to tangle you! The effect extends in a circle from K 20 to U 20 and Q 13 to Q 28. (Here's a new map to show the AoE) Everyone attempts to avoid the ensnaring plants! Aepa -> d20 + 5 = 16 Grizz -> d20 + 3 = 13 Ixen -> d20 + 5 = 6 Serias -> d20 + 5 = 8 Thorden -> d20 + 3 = 20 Grizz, Ixen, and Serias are entangled! Ixen! You're up!

Ixen blasts the plants, but must still break free to move, which takes a full round action. Orc 1 double moves to H 15, next to the bush, drawing out a javelin. The ogre double moves to Y 11 (upper left corner) and draws out a javelin. Modified Initiative:MapRound 2!Aepa! You're up!

Thorden raises a hand at the ogre, and sends a Hail of Stone at his square Z12. To-hit: 7 Damage: 8, creates difficult terrain at that square. I like this spell, overall, even though I totally just missed.

(You have to break out of the Entangle spell first) Grizz attempts to break out of the plants -> d20 + 3 = 23, and he succeeds!
(This is a full-round action)
Orc 2 double-moves to BB 20, next to the bush, javelin in hand.
On orc 3's turn, the entangle spell attempts to grab onto anyone in the area who is free:
Grizz -> d20 + 3 = 5 Thorden -> d20 + 3 = 7
(Ouch!) Grizz and Thorden are entangled!
Orc 3 moves to M 7, next to the tree and casts a spell. A fire ignites in his hand, which he is now holding. He yells to the dog in orcish and points to orc 1.
The dog double-moves to I 14, next to orc 1.
Ixen! You're up!
